Hey nanoeducators, happy Friday!

You are invited to attend the Nano4EARTH kick-off workshop, which will be held on January 24–25. This event will provide a key venue for the community to share input for the development, goals, and targeted impact of the inaugural National Nanotechnology Challenge, Nano4EARTH. With more than 250 (in-person and virtual) currently registered participants in this event and a star panelist lineup, we expect a robust discussion, and we feel that your perspective on inspiring students to solve societal issues through nanotechnology would add value to the conversation. Moreover, I would like to extend the invitation to your students, we would love to hear their perspectives and I think it would be a cool learning experience. Feel free to also send this to the NanoEd listserv, I think it could be of value to other teachers and students as well.

Conversations at this workshop will identify effective mechanisms to advance nanotechnology-enabled climate technologies, accelerate commercialization and societal impact of those technologies, and develop proper metrics to monitor progress of the Nano4EARTH challenge.

We hope to see you and your students at the Nano4EARTH kick-off workshop.

Sincerely,

Maria Fernanda

Two weeks away, register today for the Nano4EARTH Kick-off Workshop

Climate change is among the most pressing issues of our time. By understanding and controlling matter at the nanoscale, nanotechnology is helping develop and accelerate technologies and industries that address climate change and benefit society. With that in mind, the White House recently announced the launch of the NNI’s inaugural National Nanotechnology Challenge, Nano4EARTH. This challenge is a call to action to mobilize stakeholders to identify and address barriers to widespread adoption of nanoscale solutions to the climate change crisis.

To provide a venue for this critical discussion, we welcome the new year with the Nano4EARTH kick-off workshop. The workshop will be a forum for the community to share ideas on specific opportunities that can be achieved – especially through multiagency coordination – in a 4-year time frame; to identify barriers to the scale-up, adoption, and dissemination of climate nanotechnologies; to establish metrics to monitor progress; and to build connections across the diverse community.

This dynamic workshop will be a hybrid, two-half-day event that will be held at L’Enfant Plaza in Washington, DC, on January 24–25. It will feature keynote presentations from DOE Office of Science Director, Dr. Asmeret Asefaw Berhe, and Kavli Foundation President, Dr. Cynthia Friend. There will also be three expert panels and an all-hands strategic planning session to facilitate deep discussions among participants.

Space is limited, so please register today to be part of the conversation!
