http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3839542/NanoEngineer-1.7z - current working
version of NanoEngineer-1 packed as portable application.

"NanoEngineer-1.exe" is a launcher which runs the program from source.
It's possible to modify the source in any text editor and launch .exe
to see changes immediately.

This is working build with old libraries. Python, Qt, PyQt, Berkeley
DB, other libraries and some debug/development tools are packed inside
virtual filesystem ("NanoEngineer-1 Development Suite.dat").
NanoEngineer-1 source is not packed, it's in "src" subfolder. This
build has been made with VMware ThinApp 4.6.

Hi,

Thanks for the work.
I think this will advance the usage of NE-1.
I have downloaded and installed it on Windows 7 and it does work.
This is a school computer and hase some restrictions that may be causing these errors.

I can see the DNA strands as they are drawn, but not after I click the check mark.
I can not see the Atoms made with the Atoms tool or the Nanotubes.

When I run the simulation I get the following errors:

Simulator: The simulator dynamic library [sim.so or sim.dll, in C:\Users\tnelson.CAMSLAB\Downloads\NE1Portable\NE1 Development Suite\src\cad\bin] is missing or could not be imported. Trying command-line simulator.

5. [12:51:56] Simulator: The simulator program [C:\Users\tnelson.CAMSLAB\Downloads\NE1Portable\NE1 Development Suite\src\cad\bin\simulator.exe] is missing. Simulation aborted.

I also tried the Debugger version with the same results.

How do I use the Debugger?

Thanks,

Lee

Correction:
If I use the Atoms tool first the display works fine.
Only if I use the DNA tool or Nanotube tool first is the display invisible.
What does this tell us about the code?

I didn't change anything in NanoEngineer's code. If you have non-
portable Windows installation of NanoEngineer, try to repeat these
actions, you should get the same errors. Maybe sim.dll and
simulator.exe have to be compiled separately. If you have a working
copy of NanoEngineer's source for Windows, you can replace the one in
"NE1 Development Suite\src\" folder with the working one. I'd
installed NanoEngineer components for this pack according to the
following instructions:

I also tried using this and find that none of the simulation functions
work (simulation, "adjust"-function, and energy minimize) and instead
give the following types of error:

7. [15:45:28] Adjust All: ...
8. [15:45:28] (Adjusting 210 atoms)
9. [15:45:28] Adjust All: The simulator dynamic library [sim.so or
sim.dll, in C:\Users\nolan.nicholas\Desktop\NE1 Development Suite\src
\cad\bin] is missing or could not be imported. Trying command-line
simulator.
10. [15:45:28] Adjust All: The simulator program [C:\Users
\nolan.nicholas\Desktop\NE1 Development Suite\src\cad\bin
\simulator.exe] is missing. Simulation aborted.
11. [15:45:28] Error: simulator trace file not found at [U:\Nanorex
\SimFiles\Untitled-minimize-pid10392-xyztrace.txt].
12. [15:45:28] Done.

Nuallan,

sim.dll (windows) and sim.so (MacOS/Linux) are created in the "NE1
Development Suite\sim\src" directory using the "make" command. They
should be automatically copied to the "NE1 Development
Suite\src\cad\bin" directory. If is isn't there, copy/move it by hand.

Hope this helps,
Mark
