Aloha.
I'd like to do more nano art but don't know where to get the starter
images (other than the ones Chris provides) when one doesn't have an
electron microscope.

Recently I had to do a painting involving an electron microscope image
of wool. I used Google images and it was very successful. Since I
transform these images with mixed media I see no copyright
infringements. If you are going to work digitally and you are going
to work closely to the original image it might be better to ask
permission to use the image. My husband also subscribes to an
electron microscopy magazine. If you want the name of it I can get it
for you.
