Dear Mechanobiology enthusiasts,
We are excited to share with you the updates about the FEBS summer school "Mechanics in Biology: from molecules to cells and tissues" organised on the shore of Loch Lomond (Scotland, see picture below) from the 4th to the 9th of June 2023.

The school will host different activities:
  • plenary talks offered by exquisite mechanobiology scientists from all over the world
  •  hands-on activities with state of the art devices brought on site by leading companies in the field; this includes atomic force microscopy, shear rheology,  advanced fluorescence microscopy, acoustic force avidity testing, ion conductance microscopy
  • a poster session for students to present their activity, with a £250 best poster prize offered by the Institute of Physics
  • A data analysis day with scientists working on cutting edge methods to extract mechanical information from experimental data, including traction force microscopy, finite element analysis for nanoindentation, frequency-dependent rheological analysis
  • A social event, visiting a whiskey distillery and ending up with a dinner in a local pub
  • Evening round tables, to discuss the role of women in STEM, and get to know scientists who moved to industry and are happy to share their experience.
If you are interested, you can go online and register to the event. Only 24 places are available, to keep the number of students limited and the experimental activities fully enjoyable (organised in groups of 4 students working on each device). The deadline for applications is the 20th of March.

Bursaries and travel grants are available, offered by FEBS and the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB).

Looking forward to see you there,
The N4M team
