The red icon for audio message will not disappear in my text messaging. I have no microphone on the bottom right of my keyboard, and going into Settings, General, Keyboards, and turning off Enable Dictation does NOT make it disappear in my iPhone 14 Plus. Nothing is working!!!!! Any other suggestions? Thank you!

I was about to post your exact issue and then (again) tried the microphone button. By turning it on (lower right of screen) and then turning it off via the microphone icon that appeared in the message line, the red audio symbol disappeared. Go figure. Good luck.

Everyone keeps saying to press and hold the microphone icon. There is no microphone icon, just the red scribbly line to record an audio message. I want to turn that off and go back to dictation. If I press and hold, it just starts recording

There is no option to completely remove the red icon beside the message field. However, it would be convenient to have an option to turn it off completely, as I also sometimes mistakenly start a voice recording. What you can do to lessen the chances of accidentally recording a voice message is to turn off the Raise to Listen option, or turn on the Dictation option, which will replace the red icon with a microphone. This microphone icon is not easily triggered, and you have to hold it down. For the steps, you can also read this guide for more information on the issue: Fix Automatic Audio Recordings in iMessage

This is one of the most assinine features I have ever had force-implemented by Apple. In the past few weeks I have sent no less than 5 voice messages to folks inadvertently and never even knew it because it was done by fat fingering. There were plenty more that, thankfully I caught before they inadvertently got sent. The issue is the button is right where my thumb sits naturally and usually the damage is done as I am putting it back in my pocket after sending a message (it rests on the screen long enough to activate the record function).

I will never use this feature. Forcing us to leave it turned on won't ever get me to use it. I am sure someone out there can benefit from voice text - but it isn't me and this one is almost annoying enough for me to go to a different brand.

Try tapping the message field which brings up the keyboard. BELOW the keyboard on the left is the globe and on the right is the mike icon. Press and hold that mike icon and it seems to reset the message field. i.e. the red lines are replaced by the mike icon.

I think the answer to this issue is, no, there's not a manual fix. Forget about microphone icons, we're talking about getting rid of that bloody annoying red audio wave at the right end of the iMessage box. This is an Apple issue and they should fix it. Surely, they can come up with an opt in or out fix.

This orange audio feature is the most infuriating thing I've come across. There appears to me to be no way to easily remove it permanently. I've just come back to iPhones after a decent spell with Android and I'm beginning to wonder why. I guess the best way is to get as many of your contacts as possible using WhatsApp.

To disable the red sound wave icon, press and hold in the empty part of the text message where your typed message would go. The microphone will pop up for you to dictate a message using voice to text. Record yourself saying anything then delete the message and the red sound wave icon will be replaced with the microphone.

This doesn't work as of 1/23/2024 on iOs 17.2.1. When I hold down on the mic icon on the right side of the text input field nothing happens. When I release pressure it begins recording. No menu ever comes up

Looking to extract audio from a video file on your iPhone? You don't need to download third-party apps; the built-in Shortcuts app is all you need. Here's a quick guide on using Shortcuts to extract audio from a video file.

Since we'll use the Shortcuts app to extract audio, first ensure it's installed on your iPhone. If you don't find the app on your phone, you may have deleted it. If that's the case, all you need to do is reinstall Shortcuts from the App Store.

Tap on the information symbol "i" at the bottom and make sure that "Show in Share Sheet" is enabled, then tap "Done." This will cause the shortcut to appear in the Share Sheet options for easy access.

Now tap on "Images and 18 more" next to "Receive" and toggle off all options except "Media," and then tap "Done." These steps will guide the shortcut to accept media as input so it won't show up in irrelevant places.

Finally, add one more action to save the extracted audio output. Tap on the search bar at the bottom, type "Save File" and select the "Save File" option that appears. After that, tap "Done" and your shortcut will be successfully created.

Now play a video from which you want to extract audio. Tap on the share icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen and select the shortcut that you previously created from the Share Sheet options.

Wait a few seconds until you see a checkmark at the top of the screen indicating that the Shortcut ran successfully and that the audio has been successfully extracted. Now find the file you just created in the Files app and start enjoying your extracted audio!

How do I turn this feature off? My iPhone 13 Pro is updated to iOS 17.0.3. There are two screenshots to show what I see on my iPhone. It might be a little different from other iPhones. But I really want to turn off the annoying orange Audio. Advice/ideas? Thank you.

Press the plus sign and press and hold the "audio" and drag it down into the "more" area and it will go away. It makes the squiggly lines you posted turn into a microphone which just does the voice to text feature, not the stupid audio message.

We'd be happy to provide you with some information. It looks like you're referring to the icon for audio messages. Based on what were able to find there isn't a way to disable audio messages. You can learn more about the feature here: Send and receive audio messages on iPhone - Apple Support

You can easily remove audio from videos in the Photos app on your iPhone, but the same cannot be said about removing video and just keeping the audio track. However, another stock Apple app can help extract the sound clip, and it barely takes any work to set it up.

There are many reasons why an audio extractor may be necessary or preferred over a whole video. The audio from a lecture you shot or downloaded from the web may be the only important part. A video may have a song or cool sound clip that you want to save to your music library, and the visuals just distract from it. Maybe the audio portion of a video you filmed is the only thing worth sharing with others.

While you could use a third-party app to separate the sound from video files, they're not as fast or as easy as using the Shortcuts app. Export Audio, from jakeyounglol, quickly extracts the audio from any movie file in your Photos app, whether you've shot it yourself or downloaded it from the internet. You can save the file as an AIFF or M4A file in the Files app, then listen to it or share it whenever you want.

Use the direct or RoutineHub link below to install "Export Audio" (also called "Separate Audio"). The direct link should open up Shortcuts right away. The RoutineHub will send you to the shortcut's information page, which has more details, changelogs, and the most recent version of the tool.

AIFF is a lossless file format that Separate Audio uses by default, but the file size can be large depending on what and how long the audio is that you're extracting. If you'd rather use M4A, an AAC lossy format with more compression that keeps only the sounds that humans can hear (meaning, it won't sound much different to you), you can choose that instead. Otherwise, skip to Step 3 below.

After a few seconds, a pop-up will appear asking you where in the Files app that you'd like to save the AIFF or M4A file. You can keep the default directory, pick a new folder, or even add a new one. The audio file will be named after the video file, but you can always tap the file name and rename it to your liking before saving. When ready, tap "Save" in the top right to add the audio clip to Files.

Now that your audio file is saved, it's time to access it. Open the Files app and navigate to the folder where you saved the file. The files in the current directory may be organized by name or date, so you may have to scroll down a bit to find it or resort the files if necessary.

Tap on the audio file to play it like you would a song. You can even exit the Files app and continue listing to the audio file in the background. Aside from that, you can tap on the Share button to share the file via AirDrop, Messages, email, and more.

Pretty easy, right? From now on, it's just: open the Share sheet, choose "Separate Audio," rename the file if necessary, and save to a Files folder. That's way better than a third-party app could offer.
