I've been checking the stream whenever I find an interesting article
to make sure that no one else has posted it. When I find that someone
else has posted it, I keep it to myself. Is that the proper etiquette?
The reason I ask is because I've noticed a lot of people not doing
that basic "due process" and was wondering if that is making me look
more like a leach than a help. Should I post every article I find
interesting regardless?

I wouldn't worry about it. Think of your account simply as news that interests you. If it interests you then post it. If not, then don't. Your feed belongs to you. Duplicate stories are no biggie. It just means it might be a really interesting story.
