Four of us (Tina, Mike, Jan and I) made it out last Sunday, for a fairly gentle ride east towards the pagoda. Due to the heat (it must have been in the high 30s C), we didn't make it a long ride.

Lets hope it cools down a little before this sunday.

Usual place (Emerald clubhouse), 8am

Duncan

Dear all

Duncan’s email has prompted me to send a belated “au revoir” to you all and my apologies for not saying goodbye in person

The family and I departed Shanghai at the end of July, returning to the UK in 19 days of overland rail travel. A wonderful adventure and a great way to complete our 2 year stint in China.

We are now back in our home in Hungerford and are awaiting our bike delivery (and other goods) from China.

Should any of you find yourselves in the South of England, please give me a call and I can arrange a cycle tour of the local countryside. I have already sussed out a local group that is going out every Sunday, exploring the local lanes, so it’s business as usual.

Should I find myself back in Shanghai in the near future (which is a distinct likelihood), I shall be in touch for bike loan and a Sunday morning spin.

Best wishes to all of you, the pleasurable memories of the Sunday morning jaunts will stay with me forever

Richard

So long Richard and may the breeze be ever a tailwind (right, like that EVER happens when you’re biking).

I’ve missed a few rides with nanhuiche and I’m not even sure who is still around.  But Murray passed along some sad news about Tim Wong’s father and asked me to forward it to you.  If you want to send condolences to Tim, his e-address is wo...@novachem.com

Terrible news. I just heard from Tim and his dad passed away on Monday. Not
many details other than a private service today in his memory. Tim's still
in SLC with his mom.”

Murray suggested that his father’s death may have been connected to a bike accident last week. A solemn reminder for all of us who take to the road.

Take care,
Bernie

Hey all –

The Muhlheim family has officially abandoned the Emerald after 2 2/3 years and most of the family is safely back in LA and back in their respective schools.  My own job here is “fading away” rather than “burning out” (Def Leppard would not be pleased) and I’m in and out of town for the next 6 weeks, including several weekends.

I’d love to ride this Sunday but my own chariot is on a slow boat to Long Beach.  Is there a kind soul who could loan me theirs + a helmet on Sunday so I can ride?  I’ve been riding a 19” frame.  I have my shoes (Shimano SPDs) and it would be ideal if the pedals fit these cleats.

Best,

Eric.

I’ve got my old Giant, Eric, 18 speeds, no pedal clips, weighs about 50, without the mud. I figure that should slow you down enough that I’ll be able to keepup with you after all your summer training.

See you Sunday,

Bernie

Actually, you might want to wait on better offers from the Emerald/Tiziano gang. I might have trouble riding TWO bikes over the river...

Or Eric can run over and put in the extra 50 km! :)

Eric,

I do have my touring bike which I used until May, when I bought my MTB. I used the old&heavy to ride with the group until then and I think I was able to keep up. If you are interested, you are welcome to use it (Shimano LX, no clips)

Hi Eric, you can have my Cannondale bike and my helmet as well. Please let me know when you come over and pick it up so that I can prepare for a ready-to-go condition. I cannot ride on Sunday.

Please give me a call on 13817825172.

Thomas
