at the Department of Nursing Science, OAU, on the 26th May, 2011.

MINUTES OF THE 6th GENERAL MEETING OF THE NANDA-I AFRICAN NETWORK,
NIGERIA CHAPTER HELD ON 26th MAY, 2011
VENUE: Seminar Room of Department of Nursing Science, Obafemi Awolowo
University, Ile-Ife.

29. Opening
The meeting started at 2.05pm with an opening prayer said by Mrs
Erhabor. Minutes of the last meeting was read and adoption by Mr Joel
Faronbi and seconded by Dr (Mrs) Olaogun.
30. Matters arising from the last minute
o It was reported by the president that all NANDA textbooks were sold
and none was sent to the Ghana branch members. She also reported that
Dr (Mrs) Robinson requested for more copies of the textbooks but since
new edition of the text books will soon be available, she should be
contacted whether she will want the old edition to be imported or she
will wait for the new edition to be published
o The house was informed that no report has been received from the
regional focal persons on step-down programmes on NIC and NOC workshop
in their areas. Hence, no indication that anything has been done.
However, Mr Odejimi of Aro Neuropsychiatry Hospital claimed to have
introduced the concept of NANDAI in Aro Hospital.
o The president reported that the Department has been given the
#300,000.00 as requested by the Head of the Department on the expenses
accrued from the last conference. It was then suggested that the list
of the expenses should be made available to the house for
transparency.
31. Fresh matters for consideration
o The President informed the house that NIC text books have been
imported for sale at a prize of #8,500.00 each.
o The next scientific conference has been slated for March 12th
-15th , 2012 and every member was enjoined to work hard to present at
least a paper. The Community Health Nurses were advised to also try
and develop NANDAI nursing diagnoses to be presented at the
conference. 6th of June was chosen as the deadline for submission of
conference theme to the secretary at adesolaog...@gmail.com
o The following members were appointed to constitute members of the
committee for the conference

o To facilitate effective communication and preparation for the 2012
conference, the house agreed that members of the LOC who are resident
outside Ile Ife and are representatives of their domain should be paid
70% of their travel costs and accommodated by volunteers during the
FIRST LOC meeting. The Chairperson LOC is to give the date for this
FIRST meeting so that all these members could be informed.
o The Nursing process committee gave a report on their work so far.
This report is attached to this minute. However, the president
reported that the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)
invited her as part of a group to develop the Nursing Standing Order
but after a lot of deliberations, it was agreed at the NMCN committee
meeting that a Clinical Protocol for Nursing Practice in Nigeria
should be developed. This protocol will contain Standardised Nursing
Care Plans using the NANDAI nursing diagnoses, Nursing Outcome
Classifications and Nursing Intervention Classifications. . The house
then agreed that the Nursing Process Committee should work with the
NMCN committee in developing this clinical protocol to avoid
duplication of efforts. It was also agreed that the already prepared
assessment phase by the committee should be submitted to the Nursing
and Midwifery Council committee and that the final draft of the
clinical protocol for Nurses should carry the logo of NANDA-I and the
Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
32. Any Other Business
o Mrs K. T. Musah (a new member from Ijebu-Ode) complained that she
did not receive any information from NANDA-I international headquarter
since she has paid her membership dues. The president promised to
interact with the headquarter to correct the anomaly, and she was also
advised to browse to NANDA-I web site to contact the headquarter.
33. Closing: The meeting was adjourned at 4.00pm by Dr (Mrs)
Oluwatosin, seconded by Mrs Olowookere. Closing prayer was said by Mrs
Olowookere.
