Let me tell you about my little girl. Bianca was a child who was always happy, and she brought that joy to everyone around her. With adults, she was shy and respectful. With her friends, she was kind, gentle, and funny. To me, she was the smartest and most beautiful young woman in the world.
In November 2015, Alicia walked out of the ED in search of a young boy who had gone missing whom she was meant to be looking after, but soon found herself embroiled in a hostage situation. She ended up in the back of a van treating a young man for severe bleeding whilst the man who did it was outside trying to get in. She was eventually able to get the patient back into the ED safely, although Connie and Lily were both extremely annoyed with her. She later decided to email Connie informing her about her immediate resignation, emotionally overwhelmed and distraught as she reflected on her time in the ED. Her resignation was down to Lily's harsh manner towards her which quickly turned nasty and despite Lily perhaps having been oblivious to the extent, Alicia at least regarded it as bullying. Alicia attended Charlie's 30th anniversary party across the road at The Hope & Anchor later in the day along with other staff members. Ethan attempted to flirt with her, but was unsuccessful as she left to go and get a drink at the bar. Cal encouraged him to show her his vulnerable side. After the news of Connie's accident got back to the staff and they were waiting for Grace to arrive, Alicia went to wait outside the ED and Ethan followed. However, shortly after the helicopter carrying Grace was hit by a drone and crashed down near the entrance of the department. It sent an ambulance rushing forwards which crashed into some scaffolding which collapsed on Alicia and Ethan. Alicia was initially fearful for Ethan when he was unresponsive, but she was relieved when he just had a leg injury. She was able to treat him there, at the same time he told her the origin of his nickname from Cal, "Nibbles", something which she wasn't even aware of. They were eventually able to get a long pole and activate the siren from inside the ambulance which was also under the scaffolding, and Cal and the paramedics came to their rescue. Later in the day as the staff were preparing to stay and help clear up, Ethan told Cal that showing his vulnerable side had backfired, but Cal proved him wrong when he showed Ethan how Alicia was looking at him. Just a week later, Alicia's parents were in the ED as her mother Jackie was suffering from stomach pains. By this time, her parents had moved down to Holby from Newcastle. She encouraged Alicia to give it a go with Ethan, but her father Howard advised her to be more cautious. Alicia informed Ethan that her parents had only just got back together after going through a rough patch. It later transpired that Jackie had contracted gonorrhoea, which left Alicia upset. She shared a deep conversation with Ethan on the roof of the hospital which brought them closer together. Howard later confessed to Alicia that it was him who was having the affair, not her mother. She was furious and her father later said he'd leave this time. After their shift, Ethan and Alicia had drinks in the pub and he informed her that he'd been able to secure her a place living with Jez and Max in their flat. However, she left him heartbroken when she left the pub with another man. (CAS: "Fall on Me")
The following day, Alicia and Ethan woke up together but were startled when Robyn needed to borrow something of Alicia's. In the rush, Ethan hit his knee on the radiator, but Alicia quickly tended to it when they were at work. Whilst treating a patient, Duffy began having suspicions of Alicia and Ethan's romance, and encouraged her to do whatever was in her heart. Alicia and Ethan prepared to tell Cal later in the day, but at the last minute Alicia backed out and pretended they were talking about something else. That evening, Alicia found that she couldn't spend the night with Cal and when she got out of bed, Cal noticed a cuff-link on her bedroom floor. (CAS: "What Lurks in the Heart") Cal spoke to her the following week but she assured him that she wasn't seeing anyone else. (CAS: "Back to School")
At the end of July, Alicia, Dylan, David and Louise went to France to provide medical aid at a refugee camp. (CAS: Episode 1049) On her third day at the camp, she befriended a refugee woman named Hadia who she believed was being harassed by Said, a male refugee. However, it soon transpired that Said was trying to protect her from a volunteer named Emile who had been abducting women from the camp to make them work at his hotel. When she arrived at the hotel with Louise, Cameron and Said, Emile locked her in the storage room but she managed to escape and free the women. When Said collapsed after getting beaten by Emile and with no nearby medical services available, Alicia was forced to improvise and used a radio antenna to treat Said's tension pneumothorax. At the end of the trip, to help focus on becoming a better doctor, she decided to abstain from alcohol and men for a year. (CAS: Episode 1050)
In March, after reviewing the notes of patients mentioned in the 'Rage in Resus' blog, Ethan concluded that Rash was the blogger. After Charlie encouraged her to tell the truth, Alicia confessed that she was responsible for the blog. When Jac Naylor arrived, Ethan told her that he agreed to protect the blogger's anonymity if they agreed to permanently shut the blog down. Alicia was thankful to him, but he told her that he wanted nothing to do with her anymore. (CAS: Episode 1075)
In July, Alicia struggled to keep a lid on her emotions and snapped at Ethan when he asked if they could talk about his confession. Later, when she treated a man who had fallen onto his garage roof, she told him that he was paralysed. It later transpired that his immobility was only temporary and Connie reprimanded her and Eddie. However, Eddie decided to take responsibility for the blunder. After suspecting that her emotional instability was linked to Eddie, Bea got Alicia to open up about her feelings and was left horrified when she detailed her night with Eddie. When Bea told her that she was raped, Alicia believed that she was making too big a deal out of what happened and left, ignoring Bea's pleas not to. (CAS: Episode 1089)
The next day, Bea encouraged Alicia to seek help for her emotional trauma and gave her a leaflet from a sexual assault clinic. They both attended a session and claimed that they were researching techniques for helping sexual assault victims. When Alicia used her situation as a hypothetical scenario, she became uncomfortable once she was told that her scenario was an example of rape, and she left prematurely. At work, Alicia assured Bea that she was coping, but she soon snapped at Eddie after he suggested that they should be friends again. Later, after she berated him for grabbing Louise's arm in a playful manner, he confronted her and told her that he found her treatment of him confusing. Overwhelmed, Alicia ran to the toilets and suffered a panic attack. In the staff room, Bea comforted her as she started to break down. They later returned to the clinic, and Alicia admitted that the hypothetical situation she presented was the one she was in. (CAS: Episode 1090)
In August, wanting to keep herself busy, Alicia returned to work, and Connie made her medical lead for the day. She treated a young girl who was preparing to have a kidney transplant, but her chances of undergoing the operation were hindered after sustaining a head injury. Alicia pressured radiology to take her in for an MRI scan and was relieved to learn that the scan showed no evidence of a bleed. Later that day, Alicia attended Eddie's plea hearing and confronted him on his way in. He proclaimed his innocence, prompting her to tell him about the joy she would feel by putting the events of their night together on public record. She walked out when he pleaded guilty. Upon returning to the ED, Alicia told Connie that she wanted to specialise in paediatrics, and she was subsequently put on the rota for the children's ED. (CAS: Episode 1095)
In September, Alicia and Ethan shared a kiss. (CAS: Episode 1096) However, later that month, she told him that she wasn't ready for a relationship. After she mentioned that she hadn't slept in her own bedroom since her night with Eddie, Ethan decided to paint it. (CAS: Episode 1097) At the end of September, Alicia gave Ruby a room in her house. When she was offered double the rent for the other room by a woman named Jamila, Ethan encouraged her to tell Gem who had also applied for the room. After witnessing Jamila's blunt attitude towards other members of staff, she changed her mind and gave Gem the room. (CAS: Episode 1099)
In October, Alicia and Ethan tried to help Gem get back together with Rash. She gave Gem her ticket to the ball and her dress, and she shut her in a storage room with Rash so they could make amends. However, her and Ethan's plan was ruined when Jamila burst in, and Rash spilt coffee down Gem's shirt. Later, they took Gem to the ball, but, once she started to have second thoughts, she asked to go to a restaurant first. After Rash found Gem and they left to go to the ball together, Ethan and Alicia shared a kiss and decided to spend the night together. (CAS: Episode 1103) In November, Ethan asked her if he should go over to her house again, but she told him that she was going out to get toy donations for the paeds waiting room. (CAS: Episode 1104) Later that month, she was grateful when Ethan bought and donated a large number of toys. (CAS: Episode 1106)
Later that month, Alicia was delighted to receive a letter from City of Manchester Hospital offering her the fellowship. She went to tell Ethan, but she started to have second thoughts when she saw him holding a case containing an engagement ring. Connie and Elle congratulated her and encouraged her to accept the offer, but she told them that she wanted to stay in Holby to be with Ethan. Alicia soon told Ethan about the news, and, despite him also imploring her to go, she insisted on staying with him. In the paediatric ED, she treated a young boy named Donnie. His mother Kate believed that he had inherited type 1 diabetes from his father. Louise recognised him from a few locum shifts she did at St. James and recalled his condition as being a mystery, but Kate insisted that there was no controversy. Once a blood sample was taken, Kate took Donnie home, making Alicia suspicious. She soon received Donnie's admission history from St. James and learned that Kate operated a blog about his condition. When his blood test results contradicted the results of his urine test, Alicia voiced her concerns to Connie and suggested that Kate had been fabricating Donnie's illness, and Connie agreed with her decision to call safeguarding. However, as soon as a new blog post was published, Alicia took matters into her own hands and went to Kate's house. Upon arriving, Alicia was horrified to learn that Kate had given Donnie an insulin injection and raced to his room. She found Donnie unresponsive and ordered Kate to call for an ambulance. After she went downstairs to get glucagon, Alicia was stopped by Kate who demanded her to leave. Alicia tried to push past her, and Kate shoved her into a vase. They continued to fight until Alicia managed to knock her down the stairs. As soon as the paramedics arrived, she managed to convince Kate to allow them to treat Donnie, and he was taken to the ED. After she succeeded in stabilising Donnie, Connie praised her leadership skills and questioned why she would have wanted to turn down the fellowship. Outside, Alicia told Ethan that she was going to accept the offer, but he didn't mind. He subsequently got down on one knee and proposed to her, but she told him that it wasn't the right time. That night, Ethan found Alicia outside the department and told her that he was going to resign and accompany her to Manchester, but she reminded him that they had constantly let things come between them throughout their time together. Alicia told him that she had the chance to do something amazing with her life and needed to do it on her own. They shared one final kiss before she left the ED and Holby for good. (CAS: Episode 1112)
