Dear NAMEN members,
Forwarding this important message from Jennifer Bruno from MenEngage Alliance GS:
"As you know, we've been working collectively on the political 'asks' we want to see in a critical piece of global women's rights architecture.
The 6th of May deadline is fast approaching to have our say on the 41st General Recommendation to the historic 1979 Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
This is a rare window of opportunity to shape how a high-level gender policy framework addresses gender stereotypes.
To ensure our joint position on men and masculinities is heard by decision-makers, we need to harness the power of collective action. So, we invite you — and all members of MenEngage Alliance — to make a submission to the CEDAW consultation.
Want to help shape this global framework?
Follow these steps to ensure our collective voice is heard:
1. Open the Attached Draft: Review the Draft Submission that members of MenEngage Alliance have worked on together. It is ready to go with just a few minor tweaks, like personalizing it with a bit of info about your work on gender stereotypes.
2. Personalize (Optional): Add your logo, your organizations' name and a brief summary (up to 500 words) of your work in dismantling gender stereotypes. We have already included a mention of your membership in MenEngage Alliance so they see our diversity and scale.
3. Upload to OHCHR: Submit your document here before May 6. Note: You’ll need to create a quick login, then scroll down from a number of open consultations and pick ‘GR41’. Don't worry about answering every single question in the form. Just upload the file, fill in your basic information like organisational details, and hit send.
Lastly, send us an email and a copy of your submission to
jenn...@menengage.org, so we can keep track of all of our collective inputs towards influencing this process. We will make sure to report back to you on our shared impact.
If you are having any issues with your submission, please let me know"
