Dear NAMEN Members,
We hope this email finds you well.
We invite you to join a regional solidarity space on the ongoing political and military escalation by the U.S. in Venezuela and its impacts across the Caribbean and Latin America.
In recent months, tensions have intensified through military posturing, sanctions, and economic pressure, unfolding within an already fragile regional context shaped by economic hardship, migration, climate stress, and political polarization. While framed in terms of security and counter-drug efforts, these dynamics are having real and direct impacts on communities—particularly coastal and border communities across the Caribbean and Latin America—affecting livelihoods, mobility, and safety.
This escalation reflects broader militarized forms of power in geopolitics that prioritize force and control over dialogue, often marginalizing feminist, care-centered, and community-led approaches to peace and security. These dynamics shape whose voices are heard and whose lives are treated as expendable.
The session will bring together MenEngage members from Latin America, the Caribbean, and North America to share perspectives, concerns, and explore collaborative responses from human rights and gender equality perspectives, including what this moment means for our network and members.
Key discussion areas include:
Geopolitical tensions and their impacts on communities, including fishing communities in and around Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Venezuela, and neighboring countries.
The role of militarized masculinities in shaping foreign policy and security responses.
Economic impacts, including U.S. tariffs on the Caribbean seafood sector, and opportunities for cross-sector collaboration.
Military accountability and solidarity-based advocacy, with a focus on human consequences and regional coordination.
Meeting Details:
January 14th, 10amPT/1pm ET
This is an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, affirm shared values, and explore collective advocacy strategies. We'd love to see you there.
Warmly,
Tricia, Daryl, Shane, Darin, Becca, Hernando, Douglas and Bianca
On behalf of CariMAN, North and Latin Americas regional networks and the global secretariat
