Quentin Tarantino films might polarize some audiences, but the household I grew up in was not one of them. My father, like many of his peers, is still a dedicated fan of the Quentin Tarantino arts. The man even refuses to step into movie theaters unless his boy Tarantino has served up something fresh to enjoy.

Lucky for my dad, there are a good amount of his films are readily available to stream. However, that is about to change for Netflix later this month, when not one but two Taraninto epics will be pulled out of rotation. Thank goodness for physical media, am I right?

The first film was released on October 10th, 2003, and was initially intended to be released as one gigantic action epic. Plans changed, and the first volume landed to rave reviews, $180,000,000 at the box office, and a Golden Globe nomination for Thurman.

Volume 1 was written and directed by Tarantino and featured the acting chops of Thurman, Lucy Lui, Vivica A. Fox, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, David Carradine, and the undated Julie Dreyfus. The style of the first film varies greatly from the second and features influences from martial arts films, samurai cinema, and even 1970s American blaxploitation.

While there has been chatter about a potential third chapter in the Kill Bill series for literally decades, as of 2023, Tarantino seems to have set rumors to rest, stating that a third film was not happening.

The countdown has yet to hit zero for 3 Body Problem. After catching fire on Netflix earlier this year, the streamer announced during its upfront presentation that the massive hit sci-fi adaptation from David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo will return to the streamer for a second season. All three creatives will be back to continue adapting the trilogy of novels from Cixin Liu and ensure that this story has the "epic conclusion" they so desire. It comes as Benioff and Weiss have also re-upped their overall deal with Netflix to not only continue their writing and production work on 3 Body Problem but to craft other projects for the streamer, including the recently-announced Death by Lightning.

3 Body Problem Season 1 followed the aftermath of Ye Wenjie's (Zine Tseng) fateful decision in 1960s China that sent shockwaves across the universe and left a group of modern-day scientists baffled as they witnessed the laws of nature unravel. In the fictional past and present versions of Earth presented, humanity encounters an alien civilization that hails from a system following the model of the Three-Body Problem with three sun-like stars orbiting one another. With the interstellar forces looming, the scientists join up with an unorthodox detective, who had been investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding the deaths of several brilliant minds, to find a solution that will save humanity from its greatest threat yet.

To call Season 1 a success would be an understatement for 3 Body Problem. Beyond dominating the viewership charts on Netflix, the series also helped power Liu's original book, The Three-Body Problem, and other books associated with the series like Silent Spring back to the top of the bestseller charts at The New York Times and Amazon while three songs from its epic soundtrack, including Lana Del Ray's "Video Games," shot up Billboard's Top TV Songs charts. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds a strong 79% rating with Collider's Therese Lacson among those giving the series a glowing review with an 8/10 score. Expectations will be high for whatever Benioff, Weiss, and Woo have in store next for this world, especially since the story has often been seen as unadaptable before now.

Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza Gonzlez, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Saamer Usmani, Benedict Wong, and Jonathan Pryce also made up the cast in 3 Body Problem Season 1. All episodes are available to stream now on Netflix. Stay tuned here at Collider for more on Season 2 as work gets underway to continue Liu's story and check out the announcement teaser below.

Ye Wenjie (starring Rosalind Chao) is an astrophysicist, who saw her father brutally murdered during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. After her father's murder, she was later conscripted because of her scientific background and sent to a secret radar base in a remote region of China. Her fateful decision in the 1960s echoes across space and time to a group of scientists in the present day, forcing them to face humanity's greatest threat. Netflix's 3 Body Problem series is created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (of Game of Thrones, The Chair, Gemini Man) who are also Showrunners and Executive Producers. Alexander Woo (The Terror: Infamy, True Blood) co-created the series with Benioff & Weiss, and is also an Executive Producer & Writer. Featuring episodes directed by Academy Award-nominated Hong Kong filmmaker Derek Tsang (Better Days). Executive produced by Bernadette Caulfield, Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue, Lin Qi, Zhao Jilong, Plan B Entertainment, Rosamund Pike, and Robie Uniacke. Netflix will debut Benioff & Weiss' 3 Body Problem series streaming on Netflix starting on March 21st, 2024 coming soon. Who's in?

In the wake of the success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller began hyping another major animated movie project that would blend sci-fi and comedy along with cutting edge animation techniques. Now that film, The Mitchells vs. The Machines, is on its way to Netflix. The streaming giant announced Thursday that it has acquired The Mitchells vs. The Machines, previously titled Conected back when its first trailer dropped in March, from Sony Pictures Animation and is prepared to release it "later this year."

Produced by Lord and Miller and directed by Mike Rianda and Jeff Rowe (credited as co-director) from a script they co-wrote, The Mitchells vs. The Machines follows a family that struggles, as many families do now, with addiction to the various devices in their lives. When his daughter Katie (Abbi Jacobson) gets accepted to the school of her dreams and prepares to head off to college, Mitchell patriarch Rich (Danny McBride) decides it's the perfect time to reconnect with his loved ones, and proposes a family road trip to drop Katie off at college that will bond them as a family one more time. Of course, that's if they can survive the sudden robot uprising.

Epic Games, the developer behind the massively successful gaming juggernaut Fortnite, is devoting some of its resources to helping future animated feature films across the finish line. Deadline reports that the company has just used its MegaGrants program to help fund Gilgamesh, a new animated film based on the Mesopotamian epic.

The MegaGrant was given to HookUp Animation Studios, who've teamed with production companies FilmSharks and DuermaVela, all three of which are based in Central and South America, to make the epic animated feature. The film will be produced in both English and Spanish versions, and will follow the exploits of the title character. Tomas Lipgot (The Adopters) is set to direct. The project is not an Epic Games co-production, but rather a new benificiary in the $100 million MegaGrants program established by Epic in 2019, which aims to "provide financial grants to creative, noteworthy, and innovative projects built in and around Unreal Engine or projects that enhance the open-source 3D graphics ecosystem."

So, after blowing up the internet with one of the world's most popular video games, Epic is now using some of their financial might to boost ambitious new creative projects, including what will hopefully be a thrilling new version of the Gilgamesh epic. The film does not yet have a release date.

From Dusk till Dawn was already a substantial media franchise when co-creator Robert Rodriguez opted to make a television show based on it for his burgeoning El Rey Network back in 2014. At the time, the vampire Western directed by Rodriguez and written by Quentin Tarantino had already spawned two sequels to the original film and a video game, but Rodriguez wanted more, and so we got three seasons of television that greatly expanded the vampire mythos surrounding the original film. Now, we're apparently getting an even greater expansion with the help of animation.
