Greetings fellow comrades

I would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome you to the
National Model Africa Union Organization (NAMAU). NAMAU is Pan
Africanist student led organization that was birthed 2 years ago by a
group of United States International University students who wanted to
bring African issues to the forefront and engage African youth in
active participation. NAMAU is dedicated to the realization of African
solutions to contemporary African problems, as well as sustainable
solutions to challenges posed by globalization in Africa from an
African youth perspective. The focus of our agenda is to get youth
from various formal and informal sectors to get actively involved in
African issues and become part and parcel of knitting a New Africa. We
are in the process of making NAMAU an all inclusive organization and
we have jumpstarted this process by reserving commissions for students
from other institutions of learning. We would like to open up chapters
at other institutions of learning through the council of
representatives in order to have an all inclusive and diverse
organization. I am hoping our members from other universities will
take active participation through this avenue. We held a conference on
the 22nd of October 2008 with the theme, breaking the silence. It was
part of a global student initiative in conjunction with the friends of
the Congo a civil society group based in New York. The purpose of the
conference was to create awareness by breaking the silence about the
tragedy that has occurred in the DRC as well as her enormous
potential. I'm sure a lot of you are following the events that are
unfolding in the DRC. Our conference came at a good time and I think
you now have a deeper understanding of what's at stake not only for
the DRC but the continent as a whole. We are planning at least 1
activity every semester and once the calendar has been completed you
will receive a copy. I have attached a few relevant papers including
our constitution and concept paper for your viewing. Feel free to
communicate any ideas or thoughts you may have as we aim to lift NAMAU
to greater heights. Until then long live Africa.

Let us not lose ourselves, our culture and traditional values in the
current age of globalization. We need to identify our strengths as a
people and build on them through positive actions that reveal the
strength of the continent and its compatriots and give hope to the
generations to come. No people have ever developed as a result of
focusing on their weaknesses.
