ICRIER’s WTO seminar for the month of November will be delivered by Mr. Jayant Dasgupta, Secretary, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, on 25th November, 2009 (Wednesday) at 3.30 PM on Environmental Goods and Services Negotiations in the Doha Round -an Indian perspective’. We are pleased to invite you to this seminar.

 

The monthly WTO seminar series has been launched as part of ICRIER’s ongoing research and dissemination on WTO related issues. The objective of the seminar series is to identify and discuss critical WTO issues relevant for India in the ongoing Doha round and for future. The seminar would be held at ICRIER on the third/fourth week of every month from 3.30 to 5.30 pm.

Speakers Profile:

 

Mr Jayant Dasgupta has been working as Secretary, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister since January 2009. He has dealt with the Doha Round negotiations at the WTO between 2006 and 2008 in his capacity as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce. Earlier, in the nineties, he had been Director (Exports) in the Ministry of Textiles, dealing inter-alia with Uruguay Round issues.

 

Mr Dasgupta belongs to the Bihar cadre of the IAS and has handled a wide range of assignments in the state government. He holds Masters degrees in Physics, Management, Economics and Social Policy and Planning, apart from a Bachelor’s degree in law. He is currently working on a Ph.D on TRIPS and pharmaceuticals.
