A joint study from the International Labour Organization and the WTO has
found that high incidence of informal employment in the developing world
suppresses countries' ability to benefit from trade opening by creating
poverty traps for workers in job transition. "Trade has contributed to
growth and development worldwide. But this has not automatically translated
into an improvement in the quality of employment. Trade opening needs proper
domestic policies to create good jobs. This is all the more evident with the
current crisis which has reduced trade and thrown thousands into informal
jobs," said WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy.

DÉVELOPPEMENT
Selon une étude conjointe réalisée par l'Organisation internationale du
travail et l'OMC, l'existence d'un large secteur informel dans le monde en
développement empêche les pays de bénéficier de l'ouverture commerciale en
déclenchant un engrenage de pauvreté pour les travailleurs entre deux
emplois. "Le commerce a contribué à la croissance et au développement dans
le monde entier. Mais cela ne s'est pas automatiquement traduit en une
amélioration de la qualité de l'emploi. Pour créer de bons emplois,
l'ouverture commerciale doit être accompagnée de politiques nationales
saines. Cela apparaît d'autant plus clairement avec la crise actuelle qui a
réduit les échanges et jeté des milliers de personnes dans le secteur
informel" a dit le Directeur général Pascal Lamy.

PAÍSES EN DESARROLLO
Según un estudio conjunto de la Organización Internacional del Trabjo y la
OMC, la existencia de un amplio sector informal en el mundo en desarrollo
impide a los países beneficiarse de la apertura del comercio, al crear
trampas de pobreza para los trabajadores que se encuentran en transición
entre dos empleos. "El comercio ha contribuido al crecimiento y el
desarrollo en todo el mundo, pero eso no se ha traducido automáticamente en
una mejora de la calidad del empleo. La apertura del comercio necesita ir
acompañada de políticas nacionales adecuadas para crear buenos empleos. Eso
es aún más evidente con la crisis actual que ha reducido el comercio y
arrojado a miles de personas al sector informal", dijo el Director General
Pascal Lamy.
