Hey!

With the end of the academic year drawing near, it seems that April shall be full of activity for the Lit Forum. The good news is that we shall have Mr. Dushyant Dave, Mr. R.P. Bhatt and Mr. Shyam Diwan, Senior Advocates, Supreme Court, coming on campus ovr a period of three weeks, and delivering talks on litigation as a career, and other related topics.

At the moment, the tentative schedule is as follows:

1) Mr. Dushyant Dave on 6th April (3 p.m.)

2) Mr. R.P. Bhatt on 12th April (4 p.m.)

3) Mr. Shyam  Diwam on 17th or 18th April

The exact timings are yet to be confirmed. Please mail the googlegroup to suggest the timings which will be convenient for all the members. It is of utmost importance that the gathering is respectable.

Thanks.

Mohsin

yes and more importantly i think it is also necessary that before
these lawyers come here, we have our own little discussion so that the
meeting becomes worthwhile .. As in what are the collective problems
we face, the support of the judiciary and stuff like that .. It would
not only seem impressive but make them feel that we are taking it
seriously and not a mere formal invitation to speak ..

I think that is a good idea. Since we have very little time, perhaps we can have a meeting tomorrow or day after. Apart from what Chand mentioned, we must also get some volunteers who get to do the 'dirty' work.

Yes day after should be good enough. We can chalk out a tentative plan
of what we expect frm the speakers( lawyers) and also we can coerce
the first years into doing the volunteering =) thats what happens
anyways ... btw mohsin what is the volunteering needed for? as in what
are the events on those days?

Essentially, we are looking at people who can be escort the speakers, handle the microphones, make sure tea etc is available. We need to have people who can supervise/manage small things.

Hi,

Dushyant Dave had agreed to speak on any topic, however i have requested him to talk something on arbitration, being his area of expertise.

He may be giving some insight into the litigation vis-a-vis arbiration approach in India and also about the clash between them (SBP Case- as he i very fond of it).

That should be a good start.

Great going

I am looking forward to it. Any support needed please tell me. I think we must have an idea of SBP before we sit for his lecture.

Dear All,

I am pretty excited about the events, and I am counting on you guys to give
me some information about what transpired in the event. My contribution to
this is attached to this email, which is something that I had downloaded
while at Nalsar. It does provide, a perspective to issues in SBP, a modest
background reading. As with many screwed up judgments, dissent is far more
cogent (and succinct too).

I would be great, if the committee could circulate a brief profile of these
lawyers as well, so that students know well in advance "WHO" they are
listening it, and what took them to reach where they are.

Good Luck guys,
Talha

Hey,

I would suggest everyone to have a few questions handy for our speakers. Since in most cases the crowd at the lectures is small, there are situations where lawyers prefer to just have an interaction session with students throwing questions at them. If there is an akward silence then or if we just ask a couple of questions and then look at each other, it is gonna look really bad. So aside from listening to the lecture, it would be swell to have a few questions handy that you might wanna ask. The major purpose of these activities is to clear all misapprehensions about litigation from people who have been part of the system and are doing well for themselves. So we might as well make the most of it!

George

Yeah thats true but apart frm one speaker what do we know the others
are going to present !?? Do you mean general problems faced by law
students as law graduates when they enter the bar?
