CorelCAD2023 is the last version. It was released in 2022 and updated with a service pack in December 2022, which is the last setup availble. As of January 2024, CorelCAD is discontinued and it is no longer possible to buy new licenses.

As CorelCAD was mostly distributed as perpetual licenses, the impact on the users is limited. The CorelCAD users are free to keep using their perpetual license. The transition offer from Graebert is mostly aiming at offering a continuity, to get more features and future updates.

Alludo will keep offering online technical support to the CorelCAD users, as previously, until end of 2025. After this date, Alludo may continue to offer support for licenses (re)activation but only on a good will basis.

Free technical support for CorelCAD will be provided for the 90 days following the start of the trial. Not at all. No matter if you decide to take the transition offer or not, your Perpetual license of CorelCAD will remain untouched. Yes of course. CorelCAD and ARES Commander are based on the same ARES CAD technology. They both read and save directly in the same DWG format. Besides, ARES Commander is now able to import/export in CorelDRAW (*.cdr) or Corel DESIGNER (*.des) file formats. Read our comparison table to see all the file formats supported.

Yes, if you take a look at the BIM drawings features of ARES Commander, you will see that, unlike CorelCAD, ARES Commander can import Revit (*.rvt) or IFC files to not only visualize the BIM projects in 3D, but also automate the production in DWG format of floorplans, sections and elevations extracted from the BIM models. Additionally, you may export the DWG files to CorelDRAW or Corel DESIGNER file formats.

Yes, ARES Commander is available for Windows, macOS X but also Linux. CorelCAD was only available for Windows and Mac. Besides ARES Commander is supporting the version Sonoma while CorelCAD stopped at the previous version Ventura. Another key advantage in ARES Commander is the availability of the ribbon like in Windows, enabling users to decide between a Mac style or ribbon. In ARES Commander the print dialog is also offering more options for the mac users due to a recent update.

A same user, with a same Graebert Account can use its credentials for the ARES CAD software to login/logout on multiple computers. The license will follow you on each computer or mobile device. To vary the size and shape of the drawing, I simply edit the ScaleFactor to 2.0 for medium box and 4.0 for a large one. PD then automatically recalculates all the dimensions and re-scales the drawing.

Another example would be cutting a box joint. The tongue and grooves of a box joint are all dependent on the depth of the wood you are making the box from. If the wood is 10mm then all the joints are based on that to make the joints perfect.

LightBurn is primarily a laser control software package. As nice as a feature that may be for some people, in my opinion, I thinkl that the development time is best spent adding more controllers and things like dual tube support. You can always just use fusion to do what you wanted then export the dxf into LB.

I am hoping that F360 and the likes of OnShape will also help me save wastage as some of the more complex pieces friends ask me for are hard to get right first time. Up until now it has been trial and error but PD and 3D rendering should allow me to get it right first cut and save my pennies.

I realise something like PD will not be added anytime soon but when the wonderful tech team do a re-write some time in the future I hope they will include it. Helps make everything more precise and flexible.

There are already so many good CAD programs, LB has excellent import capabilities already, so if you want to use a full feature CAD program that is an option that works well. I would rather see LB development focused on the CAM side.
