The Jackal Squad,[2][3] also known as Squad Jackal[1] (チームジャッカル, Chīmujakkaru?, lit. "Team Jackal"), is a group that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was a dangerous group of thieves and mercenaries led by Infinite.

One day, the group attacked Dr. Eggman's base so they could raid the facility and fetch a hefty bounty for the Eggman technology inside. Though the squad got past the first wave of Badniks, Eggman soon summoned an army of Egg Pawn Phantom Copies that overwhelmed them. Meanwhile, Infinite was offered to become the leader of the Eggman Army by Eggman, who had seen the captain's true nature after he came into contact with the Phantom Ruby. Though the Jackal Squad members were against this alliance, Infinite gladly took Eggman's offer.[3]

The Jackal Squad was eventually assigned with defending Eggman's Facility in Mystic Jungle. Most of the members, however, were completely annihilated by Shadow the Hedgehog, who had come to destroy the facility.[5] The only known survivor of the Jackal Squad was their leader, Infinite, who tried exacting revenge on Shadow, only to be dealt a humiliating defeat. Infuriated by his own weakness, the captain assumed a new identity and fused with the finalized Phantom Ruby prototype in order to become stronger.[6]

Jackal Squad are major antagonists in the 2017 video game Sonic Forces. They are a group of thieves and mercenaries consisting entirely of anthropomorphic jackals, lead by the self-proclaimed "Ultimate Mercenary", who would go on to become the sole survivor of the team after they were wiped out by Shadow the Hedgehog, driving him to obtain the power of the finalized Phantom Ruby prototype and become the insidious Infinite.

Not much is known about the Squad's past apart from being a gang of thieves and mercenaries working for money. Their leader was the most skilled of them all, being known to be the "Ultimate Mercenary".

One day, they decide to raid Dr. Eggman's base in Mystic Jungle in order to steal his technology and sell it off. Eggman, who just discovered the Phantom Ruby, accidentally triggers it, causing it to summon an army of Badnik replicas. With this newfound army, he attempts to defend his base from Jackal Squad. The rest of squad is defeated and captured, but the leader manages to reach Eggman to deal the final blow, however, the leader's sword comes into contact with the Ruby, causing it to create an illusion of how he desires the world to be: a ruined wasteland where he rules as an overlord.

While he is distracted, Eggman knocks him away while a Badnik subdues him. Seeing potential in the mercenary, Eggman offers him and his squad to join him in conquering the world. Although the rest of the squad were against this offer, the leader accepts as a way to change the world the way he envisioned and forces the team to ally with Eggman.

Eggman becomes so obsessed with studying the Phantom Ruby and its power that he becomes negligible to create more Badniks to defend his base. Because of this, he hires the rest of Jackal Squad to protect his base while he does his studies. This attracts the attention of Team Dark, who send Shadow the Hedgehog to raid Eggman's base. When he begins to approach the base's perimeters, he is attacked by most of the Jackal Squad except for the leader, but Shadow easily defeats them all, apparently killing them all in the process.

Furious at Shadow for destroying his squad, the leader catches up with the hedgehog and boasts that he'll show Shadow why he's called the "Ultimate Mercenary". He attacks, but Shadow effortlessly defeats him in a few strikes and warns him never to show his face again before teleporting away. After his defeat and and realization of his own fear of Shadow, his inferiority complex is triggered causing him to have a meltdown.

the Jackal Squad formed when i group of young Jackal got sick of Mirage city having a water shortage so they took matters into there own hands. they'd go from place to place stealing all of the food and water they could. eventually they'd come across a place with rare antiques and they stole those two. realizing how profitable it was they started stealing everything they could. but it wouldn't be long until they got caught. however instead of punishing them the person who caught them had a different idea, that he's train them to be mercenaries to do his dirty work. so he put them through rigorous training and eventually they became a battle-hardened group of assassins and thieves.

one day after a successful mission the came across a lost Jackal named Zero. A majority of them thought he wasn't worthy of joining because he looked to weak. after Zero heard that he punched them in the face and it brought them to the ground. from that point forward Zero became a member. he exceed through the training very well testing his strength, speed, and agility. after all was said and done he became one of the best members of the crew and would eventually become the leader. after that the Jackal Squad was at it's peak.

one day they found one of Robotnik's bases i knew the Technology inside would fetch a hefty bounty so the infiltrated he base, but he was to much for the group. however Robotnik claimed that they'd earn more working for him and the Jackal Squad excepted the offer. after that they were told to keep the resistance busy and he'd pay them handsomely, so they did just that. it was going well until they came across a Hedgehog by the name of Shadow, he then proceeded so kill the inter squad one by one leaving only Zero. Zero made a valiant attempt but it was for nothing after he was defeated. Shadow then stated he'd never fought suck weak opponent in his life. it was from there Zero died and Infinite was born.

Before Infinite wore a mask and became a powerhouse through his Phantom Ruby, he was the leader of the Jackal Squad. These jackals would hunt for technology together then use it to fetch bounties. He had only been going through the motions though, growing more tired of the world each day. One day, the Jackal Squad raided Dr. Eggman's Arsenal Pyramid. The doctor counterattacked using his shiny new rock he just found. Infinite attacked Dr. Eggman directly while the rest of the squad handled the Egg Pawns. His blade clashed with the Phantom Ruby, causing Eggman and Infinite to see a world in ruins. This intrigues Robotnik, and he offers the Jackal Squad a chance to join the Eggman Empire. The other jackals try and talk Infinite out of joining, but he had already made up his mind.[2]
