KahinDeep Jale Kahin Dil is an Indian song from the Bollywood film Bees Saal Baad (1962). The lyrics of the song were written by Shakeel Badayuni, the music was composed by Hemanta Mukherjee and Lata Mangeshkar was the playback singer. In 1963, Badayuni received the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist and Lata Mangeshkar received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for this song.[1][2] This was Mangeshkar's second Filmfare award.[3][4]

Bees Saal Baad was a horror film. The Filmfare critics noted: "Appropriate background music and hauntingly melodious songs, particularly, "kahin deep jale" number, further enhance the appeal of Bees Saal Baad.[5]

I was meant to watch the film for writing the post, but that was not to be. So, I have not seen the film, and as far as I know, I have seen only this song. The other details are available (here. This was a hit song and was all over the FM channels when the movie was new. Come to think of it, it sounds as if it is very new song and not 17 year old. Meaning it has fallen on unsuspecting ears all through the 16 years. For the last one year, this has been growing on me. Now it has come of age and time for it to arrive on the blog.

All great religions of the world, all the prophets, all the emperors and kings, all just and unjust rulers of the civilized world, have taken their bow. And who among them was ever able to ensure a just and dignified life to women?

Where women were not made to suffer such humiliating life,

Where women had property rights and voting rights,

Where women had right to divorce, remarry and conjugal rights,

Where there existed a system for social security equality for all including women and their children, which more than adequately provided for all their needs, legally, without having to compromise on dignity and self-respect.

Many poets have raised the issue, and received accolades for his efforts. But poets can only show a mirror to the society, society has to make the correction itself. The poets alone cannot do it for the whole society.

Some social reformers might have tried to oppose this practice, but there is no end to this, as far as the eye can see. The answer to the questions is available within this universe. One only needs to have eyes and ears and sense to find it. The universal rules of economics apply here, but calling it the oldest profession in the world will not suffice.

nahm ji.. i so agree with your thoughts. It is really sad to see how patriachal our society has been through the ages, and we do not deserve call ourselves an evolved race. I think women in general go through much more in life than men.

Commercial movies have made a glamorous package of it. But in general, this is like a non-issue, no one is bothered about it. When some human trafficking case comes up, than it is treated as a criminal case. Otherwise it is just a topic for writing thesis in different parts of the world.

More out of the box, revolutionary thinking is required. Problem is long term, obviously the solution is also going to be a long drawn out one. It is created in this civilization, so first it to be treated as a problem, than one can look for solutions.

A poetic version...if you please...

Within me somewhere,

a bit of life remains still ..

With renewed heartbeats,

being alive is what I feel

An unknown persistence

this moment has brought,

Where was this moment before ?

So long that I have sought

Now that I on its threshold

All I want is to feel its lore

Tell me should I just die

Or rather strive for a bit more?

Should I embrace the bliss,

or is it just tears that is in store,

Tell me should I just die

Or rather strive for a bit more?

Sweltering under the ruthless sun

Found the tree where shade loomed

Like the smile of an angry child

After cajoling it again bloomed

Many a thing similar in my heart unfold

And anoint the pains that are ages old

Such demulcent compassion

this moment has brought,

Where was this moment before ?

So long that I have sought,

Now that I am on its threshold

All that I want is to feel its lore

Tell me should I just die

Or rather strive for a bit more?

Should I embrace the bliss,

or is it just tears that is in store,

Tell me should I just die

Or rather strive for a bit more?

Like a severed kite falling through the sky

Has been my life all along I find,

today I am still holding on,

Tomorrow may not be that kind.

But everyday it used to be a tale of mine

Now a new bond holds my string from behind,

Why yet again after such a long time,

A concern for things to come mystify my mind?

Such sting for longing

this moment has brought,

Where was this moment before ?

So long that I have sought,

Now that I am on its threshold

All that I want is to feel its lore

Tell me should I just die

Or rather strive for a bit more?

Should I embrace the bliss,

or is it just tears that is in store,

Tell me should I just die

Or rather strive for a bit more?

How should I tell her? She is leaving our college in 2 months. Each moment is giving me pain after listening this song. Where is that moment when i'll dare to tell her, she is my life. Don't know shall I be alive without her after two months.

I am so happy that songs like this can be made -Sonu Nigam and other singers who really value our tradition of Indian film music should educate our creators of Indian film music in this modern era to produce music and songs like that we heard in the golden era of Indian film music, the times of Rafisaab, Lataji, Kishoreda, Mukeshji, Ashaji, etc. Please do not westernize - we the audience hate that..especially falcetto voices, hip hop etc, lets modernize our Indian culture, don't Westernize it! Even DID, the dances are more acrobatic than dances and so Western; what happened to our Indianess! Lets get more songs like this...thank you.

this is not a song only. This is something which is equal to a power of support to enable you to go ahead and explore...a pessimistic gets a courage to die and forget his pain...an optimist gets enormous force to dig the earth and gets the ultimate for which he was waiting so long. A loneliness can be fulfilled with a big hug by the sole person by your side...just like a stressful life comes to an end suddenly and you are in the woods after opening your eyes...

I haven't seen the movie so I don't know the purpose this song was written for but It is amazing and every word is in sync with my every heartbeat....I can relate to it so much it brings tears to my eyes but no one else knows how much it means to me because it's hidden deep inside my heart in the most purest chamber :)

I had the opportunity to hear this song live during his Klose to my Soul concert that took place in Dallas... And now I can't stop listening to it. So in love with this song, the musical composition and the way it was sung. This is a masterpiece for sure! A classic! Beautiful! Cannot praise this song or the wonderful artist Sonu Nigam enough! Thank you for this priceless gem!

I chose this song to my 2 PM, after lunch alarm, to wake me up from sleepy mood to remind me to the losses I made & to look for those new ways to overcome and energise me. May be the voice suits my feeling.
