If you're short on time (and interest) everything here is technically skippable if you're only focusing on the MCU, though we'd certainly recommend the earlier Spider-Man films and the Spider-Verse movies for both greater understanding of the multiverse and a deeper appreciation of No Way Home.

Mckenna Grace portrayed a young Carol in Captain Marvel. Alexandra Daniels voices alternate reality versions of the character in the Disney+ animated series What If...? (2021).[6]
Beginning in July 2018, Danvers headlined a limited series, The Life of Captain Marvel, by Stohl and artist Carlos Pacheco. The series is described as a "retelling" of Danvers' origin story, but Stohl insisted that it is not a "reinvention" explaining, "You look through a different lens. It's nothing you'll expect and nothing you've seen happen, but there will be parts of her life that change the context of what you've seen before, so it's telling the other side of the story, of how she came to be." Stohl also said that there would be similarities with the 2019 film, but the film is "its own thing".[93] The series reveals that Danvers' mother is Kree and that the blast that was responsible for her powers only awakened her preexisting Kree genes, and did not fuse her human DNA with Mar-Vell's Kree DNA as originally written.[94]
Madeline Catalano of MovieWeb ranked Carol Danvers 2nd in their "Toughest Female Superheroes" list, writing, "The Captain Marvel we all know and love was not always Captain Marvel. [...] While the Captain Marvel mantle has been passed down to many, Carol Danvers seems to be one of the most pertinent and powerful of all."[164] Riley Bocchicchio of Collider ranked Carol Danvers 9th in their "10 Most Powerful Marvel A-Force Members" list,[165] while Marco Vito Oddo and Jason Robbins ranked her 13th in their "20 Most Powerful Marvel Characters" list, writing, "Captain Marvel, like Thor, is even more powerful in the comics than on the big screen. Carol Danvers, aside from being crazy strong, indestructible, capable of interstellar flight, and able to shoot photon beams at folks, is also precognitive. She can also control gravity and light, and can manipulate and absorb radiation and magic. This isn't explored in the films, but she can tether herself to a white hole to gain even more power. As Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige has said, "Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we've ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she's introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we've ever had." This is a man who knows what he's talking about."[166]
In February 2019, Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel starred as the titular character in the film Captain Marvel, portrayed by Brie Larson. It grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide.[192] Captain Marvel became the first female-led superhero film to pass the billion-dollar mark.[193] It was the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2019 and the 23rd-highest-grossing film of all time during its theatrical run.[194]

This version was originally a test pilot working under Dr. Wendy Lawson in 1989 before she was shot down by the Kree while piloting a plane with an experimental engine, which granted her her powers. There is a shot that Adam Brashear aka Blue Marvel could also join their ranks as the film could introduce a version of The Ultimates to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also, there might be a connection to the Skrull event series Secret Invasion as S.W.O.R.D. becomes a crossover organization in future film and television projects.
Marvel has also issued its own official timeline for the movies in the book Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years, which does its best to give specific years for when the various films are set (up to, but not including, Captain Marvel & Avengers: Endgame):
There are a couple of disclaimers to our list below. First up, the timeline gets more complex as it goes on, so it gets harder to order the films perfectly. For example, Doctor Strange begins just before Captain America: Civil War, but takes a time jump and ends way after it, while Black Panther kicks off shortly after Civil War, but the whole story likely plays out before the bulk of Doctor Strange.
Disney+ also has its own timeline order. However, we have only used this to inform the shows in the Phase Four section, as parts of the list conflict with previous ones from Marvel Studios. For example, it claims that Thor: The Dark World takes place before Iron Man 3, which would set this film in 2013, and not 2012 as previous sources stated.
Blade and Thunderbolts were originally in the Phase Five line-up, but the release dates now place them after Fantastic Four, which is a Phase Six movie. Unless Marvel specifies otherwise, we assume that these two films are now also part of Phase Six.

The middle portion of the film is where things really get interesting. The characters begin to delve into things that audiences have never seen before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The plot point is introduced in a way that is not typical for films of the genre, which makes it stand out among the competition.
