Date: Thursday, 12 July, 2012, 15:12Dear all, As much as possible let us present the wheelchairs to the users.This way they take ownership and also know the giver,the Club who they will only owe gratitude and nothing more.This way we will be assured of where each chair goes. where a needy case is outside our reach,use the nearest Rotary club.Otherwise the chairs may be sold,or used for self glorification by other
people. CP
Sent from my iPad Dear President Elect Kathy and fellow Rotarians,
Following is an update on potential beneficiaries of the donated wheelchairs.
- Master Francis Ndurumo Karue - A pupil with special needs learning at PEMA School whose parents live in City Carton;
- Mr Kariuki (1924) living with Roseline at City Carton whose photograph is already circulated to the club members (he already uses one of the wheelchairs;
- Three persons (two teenage girls and an adult male) with disabilities presented by Jeniffer Wangui through the local Divisional Officer for Bahati - Photographs already circulated to the members. These persons and their families live within Eastlands;
- Mrs Eudia Atieno Wanjara (85) living at City Carton with her daughter Carolyn Akinyi. Eudia was bitten by a snake 27 years ago and has been undergoing treatment since then. For the last five years, she cannot walk any more and her daughter who is extremely vulnerable has had to care for her. Eudia's arms are strong enough to use the wheelchair to move around the house and beyond;
- David Eshiteti Mutende, unmarried victim of polio living in Kakamega (Bukura Division) as a village cobra but with relatives here in Buruburu Phase II - We have photograph of of him taken by a neighbour using mobile phone;
- Zipporah Mwothiru (70-74 years of age) is a victim of acute rheumatism and lives in Igembe North. Her son in law is a pastor of the Methodist Church here in Buruburu where he is also engaged in community service. The family is willing to organize for transport here on the day of presentation - if absolutely required by the club;
- Ms Kabui (45), mother of a teenage daughter with serious mental disabilities. Kabui is a victim of polio but very determined to support herself and her daughter. She lives in Ndumberi, Kiambu, but has relatives living in Buruburu Phase II. Members of the community are willing to bring her here on the presentation day - once again if absolutely required but an old photograph is available.
Fellow Rotarians, I have been explain to the relatives and potential beneficiaries that the club is using two criteria: absolute need of the wheelchair and inability to acquire one. I hope the club will favourably assess the cases and step in with the greatly needed assistance.
Yours in Rotary,
Peter Mbuchi --
