Dear Rotarians,

This afternoon, I contacted Nairobi River Primary School where I held discussions with the Headteacher and one of his deputies on Rotary Family Health Day. 

Following are the details on the institution:

  1. Headteachers Tel. Contact: 072237033 - Deputy's number: 0721239473;
  2. Name of school: Nairobi River Primary School;
  3. Postal address: PO Box 56222-00200
  4. Location: Buruburu Estate Phase 1
  5. Enrolment: 1548 pupils
  6. Number of classes: 27
  7. Age of pupils 4 to 12 years
  8. Catchment area: Kariobangi South, Buruburu Phase 1, Outer Ring Estate, City Carton Viallge, Kiambiu village
In order to carry out the exercise, the club will need to seek the authority of from the Director of Education.  Club members will now need to work on the details are indicated by the circular. Fresh and practical ideas are welcome.

For this year's Rotary Family Health Day, Rotarian Joyce Assanga and I met yesterday, Sunday, July 03, 2012 to discuss are few suggestions and came up with following reference points:

  1. Service Site: Nairobi River Primary School since it is central, accessible and  inclusive;
  2. Rotaractors: 4 members from the following clubs 1) KIST, 2) University of Nairobi, 3) Nairobi North and 4) Nairobi Mashariki;
  3. Beneficiaries: All the primary school pupils in Nairobi River Primary School, their siblings and neighbours, residents of Buruburu Estate Phase 1 and Pioneer Estate, Outer Ring Estate, Buruburu Phase 5 Extension, residents of City Carton Village, and residents and children of SOS Children's Village; Pupils from St. Joseph's Nursery and Primary School, Kariobangi South area etc.
  4. Service providers: voluntary medics and para-medics from the neighbouring health facilities, especially those on day off on June 15, 2012;
  5. Local Partner Organizations: Jamaa Hospital, Metropolitan Hospital, The Mater Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, LITHI Kiambiu Community Clinic, Meridian Medical Services, AAR Health Services. 
  6. Publicity: 200 Fact-sheets/flyers to be distributed through the Area Chief, Schools and Residents' Welfare Representatives. 
  7. Action Coordinators: Rotarians from Rotary Club of Nairobi Mashariki.
  8. Project Roll Our Timeline: Thursday, June 07, i.e. after the weekly fellowship of this week.
These are some of the reflections that Rotarian Joyce and I had, and now over to you all for comments, suggestions, corrections, fine tuning etc.

Dear Peter,
 
This is good progress. The catchment area is perfect for the activity planned. I suppose a quick letter to the director of education (is this city hall?) would be the next immediate action. I hope bureaucracy doesn't spoil the whole thing.
