Jambo,

For those who are searching for modem that connects to 9 pin serial port (RS232) but can't seem to find them locally - this custom built solution that may be of interest to you :)

SIM800L is a GSM/GPRS single board and MAX 3232 is UART TTL RS232 module that connects to SIM800L and allows for connecting a 9 pin serial cable from the custom built modem to 9 pin serial port on computer.

SIM800L has two connectivity options - USB & RS232 serial
> USB using UART TTL USB cable
> RS232 - using UART TTL RS232 module

Configuration and testing done using Minicom & Bash on Slackware Linux 15 :)
