Jambo,

Please find attached documentation for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) specifically for laptop batteries that also includes sample bash scripts for alerting about laptop battery level as well as safely turning off the laptop if battery is critically low :)

Please note that documentation is more than 15 years old but may still be useful.
