Hi Douglas and the community,

Tagging you here to keep the conversation relevant to this upcoming meetup rather than the last thread!

You did a great job on the poster last time.Would it be possible to turn it into a reusable template? Benson had suggested (and I think it's a great idea) that it would be great to have it done in an open source tool like Inkscape or Penpot, so the community can build on it going forward. We can share that in our GitHub repo as well.

We're also thinking of setting up a dedicated space, a separate chat room that syncs across our active channels like Telegram and IRC - where folks interested in design and community work can collaborate more easily. We'll figure out the details as we go, but the idea is to have a place where we can always reach you and others on topics like this. It could even be a chance someday to share how you use these open source tools to create amazing designs, whether for NaiLUG or beyond.

Beyond design, we'd love to see this extend to other teams of interest - engineering, marketing, and any other relevant areas where community members can pitch in and help. The goal is to create spaces where people can contribute in ways that match their skills and interests, and together build something stronger for the community.

On that note, I'd also be happy to mentor anyone interested in community engineering work - here and beyond. I'm involved with Fedora as well, so if anyone is keen on learning how to grow as a community and documentation person, across open source communities, don't hesitate to reach out.

Would love to have you and others involved!

Hello Cornelius!

The design is free(as in speech) for anyone who would like to use it.

I am not proficient on the tools mentioned above(Penpot and Inkscape), but I will try them out soon for sure. I primarily use Canva alongside Adobe Express. From my understanding of what a template is, I have made a copy of the design available here for anyone to tinker with, rough drafts and original template inclusive. Feel free to reach out if you needed something else.

The specialized spaces idea sounds great, following closely.

Can you export as an SVG:

This requires Canva PRO subscription. Having an SVG allows for greater
creative freedom as one can use Free and Open Source Software.

I have a subscription:

Attached is the first page from the Canva link in svg and high quality eps. format.

The drawback is that all the text is converted to vector objects, so anyone working with these files will have to redo the text.
