Dear all,

I hope you are doing well.

I would like to ask for your views on hosting one of our events at a university. The goal is to introduce students to open source, Linux, and the Nailug community.

Would this be something the organisers and members would support?

Kind regards,
Steve

Dear Steve,

This would be very interesting for me. My understanding is that there
are university courses utilizing linux primarily for people in computer
science doing things like computer networking and forensic analysis.
However interaction with upstream and linux development seems limited.
Similarly, linux for desktop general use also seems not widely used.

Have raised an issue to document schools, universities and polytechnics
with courses that use GNU/Linux and FOSS software in their courses:

Can you specify which students in particular? Linux can also be used in
the Arts (typesetting, artwork, music creation etc.) and social sciences
(data analysis is one area).

As a member yes. We do not have a formal organiser selection and
renewal process. My understanding is a member is anyone subscribed to
this list. This is something that would also be good to create. It does
not need to be very heavyweight.

Ok. People taking teacher training courses might also find it
interesting, see for example:

Do you have a suggestion for the next in person meeting location? At
least one of the talk topics suggested for the next meeting would appeal
to IT and computer science students.

That seems fine. Would you be able to reserve a room? Things that are
nice but not strictly necessary are:
- Wifi
- projector

It would be helpful to know room capacity, would expect 20-40 people,
but also depends on interest of students there.

Will wait for others on the list to comment, and perhaps also make
suggestions. Please do copy the list email address so all interested
can contribute.

Great. Let us know the outcome.

Use `Reply all` rather than just `Reply` in your mail client.

That's a good suggestion. The suggestion of MKU is also good.
