The issue of leadership and governance has been one of the most important questions facing modern-day Africa. Sixty years after many African countries attained political independence, Africa
continues to struggle with institutional weaknesses, corruption, state and family capture, democratic shortfalls, insecurity, and underdevelopment. Despite having immense natural resources, a young population, a wealth of intellectual heritage, and technological
capability, Africa's resources have not necessarily translated into sustainable development and good human welfare. The problem of Africa, thus, is not that of a lack of resources but of leadership and governance.
