In 1886, after experimenting with coca leaves, kola nuts, and other ingredients, I created a syrup that was mixed with carbonated water. That’s how Coca-Cola was born. And yes—at first, it was sold as medicine.

I didn’t have the money to expand. I printed flyers by hand and passed them out on the street. I worked from a modest little pharmacy in Atlanta. Some days, I couldn’t even afford food—but I never stopped believing.

Eventually, my health declined, and I sold the rights to my drink for just \$2,300. A few years later, the brand I created was worth millions. I died without ever knowing what Coca-Cola would become.

I wasn’t a businessman. I wasn’t rich.

I was a broken man trying to heal… and in the process, I left a mark on the world.

Today, Coca-Cola isn’t a cure.

But it does awaken emotions. It symbolizes moments, cultures, and stories shared around a table. I never imagined that something born of pain would become something so universal.

John Pemberton only modified the ingredients and put Coca-Cola and his name on it.

Furthermore, in precolonial times, Kalanuts were not grown in the USA, Europe and Asia. It was mainly grown in Nigeria and later spread to other West African countries. John imported Colanuts from Nigeria to make Coca-Cola. He got the ingredients from Nigeria where Colanuts were grinded and mixed with water for medical purposes aside from normal drink when he was in the military assigned to foreign countries. Coca-Cola too imported Kolanuts from Nigeria and some other West African countries to make Coca-Cola until 2016, when they decided to remove it from their product and Coca-Cola has never been the same in taste since 2016. Same thing with Pepsi. Pepsi-Cola used Kolanuts as ingredient of Pepsi product.
