Obi defends defections, hints about dumping ADC if ‘process is compromised'

Peter Obi, a key opposition figure and presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has indicated he may leave the party if its internal processes are compromised.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, Obi defended his history of moving between political parties, insisting that his decisions have always been guided by principle rather than convenience.

Responding to criticism that he often exits parties instead of fixing internal issues, Obi said his past departures were driven by a refusal to participate in flawed or unethical systems.

“I moved from APGA to the PDP because I had issues with my successor, the governor, who came after me. I will not allow it to become toxic and become destructive to his governance of the state. I moved out,” he said.

He added that his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party was due to irregularities in its internal processes.

“In PDP, I said it before, people were not playing by the rules, it was transactional, I cannot be part of transactional primary, I cannot be paying people to serve them, so I moved to Labour,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra State governor also accused the ruling party and the Federal Government of masterminding the crisis that led to his decision to leave the Labour Party, citing delays in recognition of a Supreme Court ruling.

“In Labour Party, Supreme Court decided against it in April, INEC did not recognise it until 7th of January, eight months after,” he said, adding that attempts were made to trap him in a dysfunctional system.

“They thought I would be there for the fire to burn me. When I now escape they will now say Peter Obi cannot stay to put out the fire which they put and then I left,” he added.

On his current position in the ADC, Obi said he remains committed but warned that he would not hesitate to act if similar issues arise.

“I am in ADC with the same people, some of whom I left in PDP and other parties but we are going through the same process, if that process is again compromised, I will speak out.” he said.

Obi stressed that integrity in political processes is non-negotiable for him, noting, “If I have to move twenty times, I will do it. You cannot use the process of yesterday to build tomorrow. 

He also maintained that he has never engaged in electoral malpractice or influenced judicial outcomes.

“I’ve never been involved in any form of rigging. I’ve never been part of paying people in judiciary or anywhere to give me judgment I do not deserve,” he said.

Air conditioning systems have failed at the venue of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) convention in Abuja, leaving delegates grappling with heat and discomfort.

The convention is currently being held at the Rainbow event centre in the nation’s capital.

On Monday, the ADC said it was denied access to the Eagle Square and Moshood Abiola National Stadium for its convention.

The opposition party later announced the Rainbow event centre as the venue for the convention.

Subsequently, Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s national publicity secretary, alleged that the management of the facility was under pressure to cancel the booking.

Speaking at the convention venue on Tuesday, Dino Melaye, former Kogi senator, said the event will hold despite the challenges.

“We are using this place by force,” Melaye said.

“After paying for this place, signing contractual agreements, they refused to let us use it. We don’t know where to turn on the central air conditioners.

“But we are working on getting the ACs on. Even if it is in a motor park, the convention will hold today. They don’t want it to hold, but by the grace of God, the convention will hold today.”

Melaye added that fans are being brought in to the convention venue.

Though not conceding to your allegation that ADC party stalwarts don't know how to turn on the AC, but assuming, for the sake of argument, your allegation is true, how does that remove from or add to their knowledge and ability to govern? ZERO!!

Why not criticise them on any important area/s of their default (if any), instead of dwelling on frivolities? It's clear that you have NOTHING to say against ADC. So, leave them in their determination to help FLUSH OUT President Tinubu's inept government at the upcoming presidential polls, to be able to install a purposeful one for Nigeria in its place. Meka

Dino, the college dropout from ABU himself said it, you confused pastor. Read it above. There is only one place where you can turn on the AC: From the power button. They didn't know what power button looks like, despite the manufacturer putting a symbol on the button for dummies like them. They were technically challenged. Even a primary one pupil knows where to turn on the AC. Obviously, the facility uses a central air conditioning system and the power button is located on the wall, but they couldn't figure out what to do with it. If the ADC dummies can't turn on common ACs, how can they rule a complex country called Nigeria with over 230 million people and several gargantuan problems?

Stop supporting ADC's stupidity.

If a party that wants to rule Nigeria cannot get their convention right, how can one trust them in managing Nigeria?

If Peter Obi cannot handle intra-party political problems, how can one trust him with multi-dimensional socio-economic and political problems in Nigeria.

Elsewhere, he was calling Dino Melaye a college dropout -- a stupid lie, because Melaye graduated from ABU and has of recent studied and obtained a law degree (not sure if he has been called to the Bar). if I did not know that this moron graduated from Nsuka with Joe Attueyi and Godwin Emefiele, I would have concluded that he must be a college dropout, since he frequently lies against people over college dropping out. He has been unemployed for almost a decade due to ill health (I don't fault him on that but I am pointing it out to show why he thinks that others are in his league of menial job holding). He lives in abject wretchedness, yet he is wasting his energy defending APC whose roguish members are robbing the country dry and making it difficult for him to return to Nigeria to nurse his ill-health and die peacefully.

So, if Dino Melaye now has a BA Geography (Third Class), how could he have used that certificate to enter Law School in Nigeria. Law Schools in Nigeria don't accept Third Class degree graduates.

2027: Obi, Atiku regional candidates – Amaechi rules out consens in ADC

Former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has described all presidential aspirants in the African Democratic Congress, ADC as regional candidates.

DAILY POST reports that former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar are all aspiring to emerge the ADC flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during a chat with Channels Television, Amaechi claimed that he is the only aspirant in the party who is not pursuing regional interests.

The former Minister of Transportation also declared that the party would conduct a proper primary election to determine who flies the flag.

He said, “It is within the right of the former vice president to say that he wants to run, nobody is stopping him. But he has to also understand that there are other factors beyond where he comes from.

“They are all regional candidates, but I am not a regional candidate. I’m not running because I’m Igbo, even though I’m partially one.

“I have said to Nigerians, leave region and ethnicity alone. That’s what put us here. Those who supported President Tinubu were pursuing religious agenda. They were so happy about the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“Today, they have discovered that the market does not know Muslims or Christians. The market only understands naira and kobo, no other language.”
