Is reading status OT?

Hi All,
I am currently looking for a solution to how I present the current
status measured by Nagios to users (most likely in PHP, over the web).
Does nagiosconfig have an interface for getting service status
information out the nagios app?

(I've already had a cursory look at the front-ends available on
nagiosexchange but apart from dashboard - they don't really do what I
want - dashboard would need developing for our purposes but we have no
python skills)

Can anyone point me in the right direction? (looking for more detail
than bin/nagiostats reports and writing my own event broker seems like
overkill)
