to Nagios Config
I am running nagios 1.2 and am finding it increasingly difficult to
manage via the command line as my settings are getting more and more
complex. For this reason i would like to install a web front-end to
edit the config files (specifically the client service definitions).
NagiosConfig looks like it would make things easier for me to manage,
but i don't want to have to install MySQL if i can avoid it. Is MySQL
essential for a nagiosconfig installation?

Yes, it is currently required for a nagiosconfig install. Nagios Config is released under the GPL license so you are free to modify it to fit your needs. http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
