Sohow do you find your sister size? You can find your two closest sister sizes by (1) going up a band size and down a cup size, or (2) going down a band size and up a cup size. We promise It only sounds more complicated than it is, so we created a handy sister size calculator for you to reference.

Neither your cup or band fit: If both your band and your cup are too big, or if they are both too small, then adjust only your band size. Don't worry about changing your cup size - it'll naturally adjust with your band! If your band is too small and your cup is too big, then go up band sizes while reducing cup sizes, and vice versa. This solve is a bit trickier and will require you to try on more bras to find the perfect fit!

If your bra is fastened on the loosest clasp but still feels too constricting, contemplating your sister size up. It would mean moving one band size larger than your current bra and one letter down your current cup size. For example, if you are currently in a 34D bra size and the band feels snug, you can transition to the sister size up, which is 36C.

If your bra feels comfortably loose and is already on the tightest hook, you may need to try your sister size down. Go one band size down and one cup letter up. For example, if you wear a 36C and the band feels loose, consider trying a 34D. It should offer a more snug bra band while maintaining the same cup size.

Sister bra sizes are a great concept that proposes a perfect fit when your conventional bra size fails to work. But do they genuinely deliver the desired outcome? The simple answer is yes! Sister sizes work well as long as one does not exceed their limits. They can be especially useful when finding a better-fitting bra if your usual size is uncomfortable or unavailable. Bra sister sizes work on the fact that the cup volume is not fixed but relative to the band size. An increase in the band size has a corresponding slight increase in the cup size despite having the same letter. For example, a 34B and a 36B have different cup volumes even though both have B cups.

Sister sizing will work best when you are going one size up or down. Once beyond that threshold, the bra will change its overall proportion and either be ill-fitted or not provide enough support. It is also worth noting that they do not change the shape or position of your breast; they are only an adjustment of the band and cup size proportions to accommodate your breast optimally.

They may not be a magic solution, but bra sister size can be a helpful tool that facilitates your quest to find your ideal fit. Get professionally fitted, or try our Fitting Room Quiz to get your best bra recommendation.

Sister sizes are alternative bra sizes to your current bra size where the cup volume stays the same even though the band size and cup letter change. Everyone has more than one size option when it comes to buying bras, these are called Sister Sizes, you can sister size up or down from your usual size to ensure you are getting a bra that fits comfortably. This may also give you the freedom to shop with brands you thought previously didn't cater to your size or whose version of your true size didn't fit well.

Before discussing sister sizing, it is helpful to understand how bras are usually sized. This differs from country to country, but as a rule, cups sizes are represented by a letter (such as A, B or C) and band sizes by a number (32, 34 or 36).

The band size is a direct translation of your under-bust measurement and the cup is worked out in relation to that. The cup size is a simplified way of labelling the volume of your bust in relation to your under-bust (the area where your bra under-band sits).

Band sizes and cup sizes are relative to one another, meaning a C cup, for example, is not the same across band sizes. This is because the cup volume adjusts with the band size. For example, someone who is a 36C will have a noticeably fuller bust than someone who is a 30C, the capacity of a cup increases with the band measurement so you cannot wear the same cup size regardless of band measurement when looking to find an alternative size.

Yes, Sister sizes are sizes that have the same cup capacity but a different band size. For example, someone who wears a 32C could also wear a 30D and a 34B depending on if they want a tighter or looser fitting bra. Make sure you have been fitted and know your true cup size before trying to work out sister sizes. If you want to understand why your bra might not be fitting perfectly, check out our blog here.

Have you ever found luxury lingerie that you adore but your size is out of stock? Don't worry you might be able to shop another size. If your size isn't available you can try a size within your sister size range, sister sizes are a great tool if your normal size is sold out or a certain style isn't fitting right. If neither are fitting well it might be that the style isn't quite right for your shape.

Sister Size Down - If your bra is on the tightest hook but still feels comfortably loose, you can sister size down. This is one band size smaller than your current band size and one cup size larger than your current Cup. For example, if you wear a 34C, your Sister Size down would be 32D.

Before you use a bra as the point of reference for sister sizing, it's worth considering the age of that bra. Over time bras will loosen and lose their shape with wear so, while the underband on an older bra may feel loose and comfortable, you may find that sizing down in the under band on a new bra can feel like a big change. You may also find that, while sizing up may seem like a bad idea, with a brand new bra it will be firmer than you think. Check out our guide on whether it's time to buy a new bra here.

Remember, all brands and styles of bra will fit slightly differently, so it's a good idea to try a few different sizes to find what works best for you. The most important thing is that you feel exquisitely comfortable in lingerie which makes you feel empowered.

So what if you just want to adjust your band size and keep the cup size the same? To get the same cup size volume across band sizes, you would adjust the cup size up or down one for each band size change:

This is the underwire sizing guide for full size range of the Black Beauty Bra. You can see that size 40B, 38C, 36D, 34DD, 32E, 30F & 28FF all use a size 40 underwire. They are all sister sizes- sizes that have the same cup, but different band lengths. That means that you can take any one of these sizes, and create one of its sister sizes by modifying the band length of the pattern.

Then comes the question of how to make this alteration- how much do you remove or add from the back band for each bra size difference? Well I wanted to make that very simple for you, so I made a print out!

Then place your Outer Back band along one of the Band Size lines, overlapping your center back band, and keeping your pattern pieces aligned with the horizontal line. In this diagram I show decreasing by 2 band sizes (for example a 32 to a 28), but you should use whichever line works for your modification. Then you re-draw the top and bottom lines, keeping the side seam and hook and eye edge unchanged. Voila! Your new piece, and your new sister size!

Then, using the print-out for increasing back band size, place your Center Back Band piece on the indicated line (aligning the horizontal lines) and place your Outer Back Band piece on the Band Line that suits the number of band size you wish to increase. In this example I show 2 sizes. Then you re-draw the top and bottom line of the pieces, keeping the side seam and hook and eye edge in-tact.

Hi Yvonne, Sister sizes to a 40B would be 38C, 36D, 34DD, also 42A. If you find that a 36B fits well in the cup, then you might want to use that size and length the band by 2 sizes to make the sister-size 40AA.

So looking forward to creating undergarments that fit.

That said, most patterns accommodate regular wires, because those are the most commonly available wires. Buying and manufacturing specific types of wires wholesale is extremely expensive, so home sewing retailers usually buy what they can get wholesale.
