The good thing about seeing Anna Hazare on national stage is that you
don't have to be a glib talker/so-called-intellectual to convince
others. I am not against effective communication. The values behind
that communication are more important. His life is good enough example
for students to learn about ethics, transparency and good governance
which is mostly academic in schools/colleges/universities. These same
students become adults in India taking corporate/government jobs or
run their businesses. If Anna Hazare is a student in elite school
today, probably his rural behaviour and accent will be made fun of.
Anna Hazare created RTI act. How many nagaris have filed RTI requests
in Ahmednagar district? It is REAL work than clicking 'like' button or
scribbling few words on facebook page/group. Nagaris have long way to
go to understand global corruption, given they can't keep track of
corruption in their own district. Absolute power corrupts people.
Autocratic lokpal (1+10 members) could be corrupt. Decentralizing that
autocratic power would have been better, the way Mahatma Gandhi wanted
villages/Gramsabha as center of development of India. The future of
India will be dependent on Lokpal's values, since Indians follow
tolerance (or timidity?) in corruption. Corruption will never be
eradicated without following social values of honesty and integrity.
Do we have that in India, especially in new generation which is future
of India? Huge population, limited (or disproportionate?) resources,
lack of open society (उदा. चावडीपासून ते शाळा/ कॉलेज/ऑफिस/
इंटरनेटपर्यंत नगरी टाळक्याचे पिढयानपिढया रुजलेले टोलवाटोलवीचे संभाषण)
would stretch those social values in India. We will have to look at
ourseleves first to make India transparent. How many Indians pay
taxes? How many Indians buy pirated products? How many Indians pay
fine when they are caught by traffic police? How many Indians will
vote for corrupt politicians? How many Indians will follow corruption
complaints in India using that Lokpal bill and follow it till the end
of the result of those complaints? How many Indians will keep track of
that bill so that it can't be compromised/amended for wrong reasons
for benefits of few personal interests? If those compromises happen in
values in India, Lokpal bill will be another puppet show in India. By
the way, we already have anti corruption laws in India since 1860,
just like child labour law, anti dowry law, tax evasion law, driving
laws, anti piracy laws, child marriage law, anti domestic violence
laws etc. How many of them are really put to good use in India? Even
you file corruption complaint using Lokpal bill, there will be appeal/
s after the result of the complaint.
