How many top NAGARI students really get involved in developing
reserved students - in schools, colleges, universities, IITs etc?
So, I watched Aarakshan - a bollywood movie. Is Pathshala a similar
movie (Nana Patekar as principal)? - may be not. I am not a fan of
bollywood. Bollywood is a dumb industry for me
I have written about it in Nagari google group.
It is funny to see bollywood tackling reservation issue when bollywood
industry itself is plagued with entitlement of bollywood families as
if there are no actors/professionals in India besides those bollywood
families. So, let us skip bollywood and talk about education in India.
Music, Sports are part of education in schools
all over the world e.g. Music is used to understand mathematics more,
writing your own lyrics takes efforts, learning musical instrument/
developing hobby on your own shows your determination, reading books
outside your syllabus shows your diversity, developing weak student
being top student in competitive world shows your courage, playing
team sports, VOLUNTEERING can teach you few life lessons e.g. how to
get along with people.
Reservation is implemented all over the world, though it may not be
caste specific e.g. USA (Affirmative Action), Europe, Brazil etc.
India is famous for discrimination - caste, gender, age (कशाला बोलतोस
idiot created this tradition?), looks (bleaching products to look
beautiful), family entitlement (son of politician/bollywood hero
etc.), spoken language(गावठी दिसतंय टाळक), education(शिक्षण - एक
last name, job title etc. For reservation, we could investigate our
discriminatory history of Manu, balutedari, 'Criminal Tribes Act of
1871' etc.
Nagari students are all over the world, but let us stick to Indian
education. There is a lot written about Indian education. Rote
learning (घोटुगिरी)? excessive fees? privatisation of education?
private tuitions? mismatching (झेपेल का, समजतंय का)? lack of good
teachers especially in rural region? politicians in education sector?
teacher training? what is real education? family as a stakeholder in
education in bottom economic levels? These are not QED issues. Picture
this - one person standing in front of a whole class and barking at
students. Isn't that outdated concept in teaching now? At the end of
barking, most of those students don't understand what happened for
that hour. If you want to do that as a teacher, just record your
lectures using camcorder and put them on Internet/VCD/DVD, so that
each student can learn according to his/her pace. What you need in
class is collaboration/interaction with students. I am absolutely
against coaching/private tuitions that encourages ghotugiri. Tabela
class/ITS is just another form of it. ITS (Indian Teacher Service)
like IAS? Who says that IAS works in interests of poor people? That is
like saying IIT/IIM graduates will be working for life in rural India
after graduation. We have extensive five year plans to get government
involved in Education. Premium institutes like IITs are product of
five year commissions. AICTE is a government organization.
Radhakrishnan Commission and Kothari Commission have mentioned equal
access (equality) that involves fair access to the poor and the
socially disadvantaged groups. Are they regulated properly? Yashpal
committee has reviewed UGC/AICTE. We need RAW intelligence in students
and education system developed around it, that needs diversified
curriculum based on personality of a student. Self-learning is
mandatory. We also need a global mass competitive education system
(not based on rote learning) in India. No seperate private/public/
municipal schools. All of them should follow same education format -
Why seperate CBSE, SSC? Put best teachers in rural and economically
challenged regions of India first.
I have seen reservation system implemented in schools/colleges for
admissions on caste basis in India. I am not in favour of that. It
should have been on economic level, but I guess it's difficult to
implement that, since we Indians are good at somehow producing such
income certificates. EBC (Economic Backward Class) is one example of
exploiting this. I have seen students from economically good families
filling EBC forms to save school/college fees. Has it fixed yet? We
could start reservation based on poverty, slum, digital divide etc..
There are 41.6% Indians under poverty line. How is that for beginning?
According to Nagar corporation, 15% population lives in 22 slum areas
of Ahmednagar city. We could use 'digital divide' to give access to
reservation for students who can't afford Internet access. We should
pair top students with bottom (reserve/weak) students based on marks
and grade them in every semester of graduation. The top student gets
the marks based on how much efforts top student has taken to develop
bottom students. You can rotate students each semester. Hopefully,
once you do this, you will not see copies lying on the grounds of
colleges/schools in exam days. Give the weightage to students in
higher studies/jobs based on how many bottom students they developed.
Our education system is so idiotic and rote, it doesn't involve
process to develop all students, it is so singular and absolutely
doesn't teach them to work together. Most (all?) of these students
spend their school/college days in hiding information/notes/lying
about studying/assignments/projects/groupism etc. I mean there is a
reservation system but how many top students really get involved in
developing reserved/weak students in schools, colleges, universities.
My guess is almost NONE. Kill the private
tuition system in Ahmednagar as well. Close schools/colleges of
politicians. Develop rural students if they are in your class in your
city/metro etc., since education in rural Ahmednagar is not that good.
I understand the paranoia of cut-throat competition of getting
admitted to better schools or getting better job, I request you all
TOP students to give it a try, you won't be disappointed and you will
also make life-long relationships with whom you developed. Isn't that
real education - developing country/world? It might not be QED though.
If you are still hanging onto discrimination issues I mentioned above,
then it is NBD (never be done) in India.
