Ifyou are under 18 years of age, you may not be able to verify your identity for a Login.gov account. If you have trouble verifying your identity, please contact the partner agency to find out what you can

do.

Login.gov is a secure, government website that adheres to the highest standards in data protection. Most of the data you submit is not stored. Learn how we verify your identity and the privacy and security measures we take to keep your information safe.

The IRS proactively identifies and stops the processing of potential identity theft returns. You may receive a notice or letter asking you to verify your identity and tax return information with the IRS. This helps prevent an identity thief from getting your refund.

There are compatibility issues with some assistive technologies. Refer to the Identity Verification Service Accessibility Guide for help if you use a screen reader, screen magnifier or voice command software.

ITIN holders must verify their identity through the video chat process and will need a valid email address, proof of ITIN, one primary document and one secondary document. One of the documents must provide proof of address.

This identity verification process applies to IRS services including Online Account, Get Transcript Online, Online Payment Agreement, Get an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN), Tax Pro Account, e-Services, and Submit Forms 2848 and 8821 Online.

For your protection, Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) must verify your identity when you file for unemployment benefits. This process ensures that the person filing for benefits is who they say they are and protects against fraudulent attempts to obtain benefits.

Thousands of Iowans have already successfully used ID.me and are completing their verification in less than five minutes on average. Visit the links below to learn when to use ID.me, the various options for verifying through the platform, and how to get support.

NOTE: Your identity must be verified or your unemployment benefits may be delayed and your claim may be canceled. Click or tap on the sections below to learn about the identity verification process.

The process for verifying your identity will take place when you file for unemployment benefits, typically during your first claim (initial claim), or your first weekly claim after April 1, 2024, if you have not yet verified your identity through ID.me.

ID.me is a more secure and efficient process for verifying your identity, and is directly incorporated into the process when filing an unemployment claim with Iowa Workforce Development (IWD).

IWD offers three verification options with ID.me to maximize accessibility and offer claimants the choice to find the best verification option that works for them. The three options are Online Self-Service, Video Chat Agent, and In-person Verification.

Claimants can choose from the list of document types below to verify their identity with ID.me. Before proceeding, please make sure that the document is still valid/current and is the original physical version (no photocopies). View the list below or visit this link for a list of primary or secondary identification documents.

Note: If you only have a temporary ID, please refer to this link on how to verify your identity with the video call option. Some claimants may require additional documentation to prove their identity. View a full list acceptable documents on the ID.me document help page .

Visit help.id.me to get support now. Claimants can ask the virtual assistant or submit a request through the online form. The ID.me member support team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will get back to you as soon as possible via email.

We received an Illinois Individual Income Tax Return, filed with your Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification number (ITIN). In order to protect your identity, we are requiring you to verify your information to ensure that you are the individual who filed this return.

Self Lock is the unique feature that lets you protect your identity in E-Verify and Self Check by placing a "lock" in E-Verify on your Social Security number (SSN). This helps prevent anyone else from using your SSN for an E-Verify case. If an employer enters your locked SSN in E-Verify to confirm employment authorization, it will result in an E-Verify Tentative Nonconfirmation (mismatch). With Self Lock, you are always in control - you can unlock your SSN any time a new employer needs to confirm your employment authorization in E-Verify. Your Self Lock remains active as long as your account remains valid, and you have not unlocked your SSN. The Self Lock feature is only available to myE-Verify account holders.

To lock your SSN, you must select and answer three challenge questions. Select questions you can easily answer, because you will need to answer them again to verify your identity if you receive an E-Verify Tentative Nonconfirmation (mismatch) due to Self Lock.

The New Jersey Department of Labor has partnered with ID.me to verify the identity of all workers applying for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. This required step helps protect your identity and protects your benefits against attempted fraud. Before you can receive unemployment benefits you must verify your identity through ID.me.

Schedule an appointment with an NJDOL unemployment insurance staff member who will help you with the identity verification process. (Click here for a list of One-Stop locations.) You can visit a One-Stop Career Center without an appointment, but you may need to wait and may not be able to be served.

If you have already completed ID.me verification for another agency (such as the IRS, SSA, or Veterans Affairs), please log in to your ID.me account. You will be instructed on how to share that proof of verification with NJ and if there is anything additional you may be required to do.

However, this confirmation email from ID.me is not enough to begin certifying. You must wait for a New Jersey Unemployment confirmation email from ui-no...@dol.nj.gov (pictured here):

Please make sure your weekly certifications have been successfully submitted for each week you have been unemployed. If there are eligibility issues with your unemployment claim, NJDOL will need additional time to resolve these issues. You may receive requests for further information from New Jersey in order to process your claim. Please check your email inbox for requests for information from ui-no...@dol.nj.gov.

If you have not received the confirmation email, you likely did not complete the ID.me process. Please try verifying your identity again. Please reach out to ID.me support if you believe you completed your verification and need support.

Each UI claim is valid for one year and you will not need to repeat the ID verification during that year. When opening a new claim, you will be asked to sign in to your existing ID.me account to link your existing verification to the new claim but will not have to repeat the verification steps.

Select the In Person Verification method, where you will be prompted to enter your zip code and city name to locate the most convenient location for your appointment. There are 29 UPS locations around the state that partner with ID.me to offer in person support. We recommend making an appointment, but you can choose to walk-in any time during regular business hours. You must submit your unemployment insurance application and create an ID.me account online before you come in. If you scheduled an appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with a QR code that you will show when you come in and a list of documents you will need to bring to your appointment in order to complete your application.

If you choose not to participate in the identity verification process, or you fail the verification process, you can still submit your application. However, we will not make any benefit payments to you until we confirm that your identity has been verified.

As of January 20, 2024, all attorney support staff must complete a one-time identity verification using either the online or paper verification option. For more information, see the sponsorship common questions below and our Federal Register Notice.

To protect our customers from scams and fraudulent activities, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) requires identity verification for USPTO.gov account holders who use our trademark filing systems. To complete this one-time process, customers can choose to verify their identities through a paper identity verification process or online via ID.me. In addition to verifying their identity, legal professional support staff, such as paralegals, must be sponsored by a verified attorney before they can access trademark filing systems.

In general, if you need to file or edit data in trademark forms, you must be logged in to a verified USPTO.gov account. There are, however, some situations where identity verification is not required:

As part of the verification process, you'll choose a user role associated with your USPTO.gov account. Your user role tells us how you use our filing system and what access you need. Read the trademark user roles page for detailed information on selecting the right role for your filing situation.
