Everythingis with wire. My emby server is located on my pc. My library are on my NAS. Worked like a charm for long but now i just removed subtitles because of this problem. And that triggers me a little.
Are you positive these are not subtitles that you are using emby to download? What type of subs are these, SRT, PGS, SUB? When I download subs there are rarely synched so I always check them and run them through SubSync and then Subtitle Edit if need be to perfect them. If these are subs you have ripped from your own discs but only play out of sync on the TV then there may be an issue with the emby app on that TV. I only have Sony and LG TVs and use Firesticks too so I can't attest to Samsung.
Hi
If you don't see any *.srt files or suchs it's probably embedded in the videofile.
If you play the video on the TV and either enable geek settings or look in the Emby dashboard, is it transcoding?
I'm saying this because television's subtitle support usually is more limited compared to computer's/mobile's support.
If the subtitle format isn't supported by the TV itself that could cause it to transcode and cause a delay in subtitles for sure.
For more details on the subtitle format you could check with for example HandBrake/MediaInfo to see which codec for the subtitles is being used.
But did notice just now, that srt. files are working fine. Seems that it is MKV. files there are doing the trouble - Where subtitles are embedded in the videofile. No srt. or anything in movie folder but stil have different subtitles to choose from. Last few movies where it did screw up was that kind of a file.
I thought my problem was mp4s and mkvs where the Audio language was Und but I used mp4box to correct one of the mp4s and Smart subs are still not working. The Revenant (2015) is the movie and there is intermittent non-English dialogue; however, the subtitles play for all dialogue or none, depending on how I set CC once the movie starts.
If you're referring to "Subtitles matching the language preference will be loaded when the audio is in a foreign language."? then Yes, I did. To me that means subs will be displayed only when the audio is in a foreign language. Preferred language is set to English so subs should only appear when dialogue is not English.
Assuming I'm misunderstanding the Smart help text and it's actually an all or nothing subtitle load, instead of being based on scene dialogue language, why would subs be loaded at all since the Audio is tagged English?
@@Luke confirming I was mistaken that the help text meant subtitles would be shown for only non-English scenes/dialogue? If the media file audio tag is English then I need to turn on subs and they will play for the entire movie? Unless I get a sub file with translations for only the non-English dialogue.
If I set subtitles to "smart", will forced subtitles in my preferred subtitle language (and marked as forced) be automatically enabled if the audio language corresponds to my preferred audio language?
Maybe an example for "Smart" mode: if your preferred audio language is German, and you watch movie with German audio - it is considered you DO understand that language and no subtitles are needed; but if you watch a movie with Spanish audio, it is assumed you DON'T understand that language hence your preferred language subtitles will be pre-selected.
Subtitles are not loaded for non of the video file types(tested at least with .avi and .mkv). Since this is one of the reasons for this purchase of my it is quite critical for me to have this sorted out, so any help would be more than appreciated!
As a rule subtitles are named the same way as the video file and are working fine when streamed from USB stick or trough AllShare (fed from my PC) as well. Looks like I`m mistaking something with the NAS (DLNA server I guess)
@WDTony, indeed I`m talking about external subtitles (.srt) with the same name as the video file stored in the same folder.Exactly the same set (video file + .srt) has been test trough USB, All Share (some kind of DLNA for PC) and from the NAS. Everything worked fine with the USB and the AllShare scenario, but no subtitles when playing from the NAS.
Being able to play subtitles through DLNA vs. a samba mount are two different things. Your player has to be able to support subtitles - and btw, subtitles over DLNA is a grey area in the specs. Each vendor has implemented it differently - if at all. Basic research on the interweb shows the lack of support in the industry for this.
My understanding is that playing video via AllShare is something similar (if not the same). As I said subtitles are displayed when playing from AllShare. If my understanding is correct, then the problem is laying in WD`s Media Server.
All share via USB? The thing people forget that that is completely different technology. The Samsung device likely mounts the USB stick via Samba then reads the content directory - so if it includes a Subtitle file, it knows it is there and plays it.
I agree that why how other DLNAs are working is something that shouldnt care. However, my observation as normal user is that all other solutions (DLNAs) that I tried(AllShare, Serviio, Mezzmo, etc) are supporting what I need - external subtitles for Samsung Smart TV. Considering Samsungs share marked I believe it is worthy to adjust in order to be compatable with them
For Once solve all the problems once and for all, we are not going to change our 1000s of $$ LED/LCD TV to have your DLNA supporting that. you need to make Standard which is commonly used and Samsung has Larger Share of Market than other Televisions.

When playing videos that contain smart subs like .ssa/.ass the newest kmplayer 64x version doesn't display it properly. it shows it as a generic .srt subtitle and not with all of the effects of smart subs.
Which version of windows are you using? This method works for me everytime:Just create a new user account or a turn guest account from control panel and try to play the video again see if it works .Works for me everytimeBtw does your system meets the requirements of the software/video player
Thanks for the note. To select a caption track, press the * key during playback and go to Accessibility - Captioning track. From here, you should be able to select from the available captioning track. If you encounter an issue with any caption track, please feel free to follow up with Disney+ support to report the issue and request additional help.
Quit Disney on the TCL. On an phone, tablet, etc. launch the Disney app, (with the same account) select the movie you want with subtitles and select the language (upper right corner). Check it has the right subtitles, stop it and launch the Disney app on the TCL, selecto and play the movie. It should have the right subtitle language.
I have the same problem and the * is not the solution as I have it set for english subtitles and the subtitles on my TCL tv with Roku built in are always in english EXCEPT on the Disney+ app. On every other device the Disney+ app has the advertised closed caption button in the top right.
I have enabled the captions (using the asterisk menu) yet no captions appear. Disney Plus and captions work fine on my other devices (iPad, android phone) but not my 4K Roku Stick. What's the remedy?
Some channel manages its own content programming, including closed captions and subtitles on contents. Reach out to the channel If changing the captions on the Roku settings does not resolve the issue.
I just purchased a LG 55UH6090 4k web OS 3 television. I connect to my Plex media server via wifi network and using what I believe to be Smartshare everything appears ok. All my video folders show up properly. All the video files inside these folders show up normally and the video plays with no problem. Unfortunately the subtitles do not display. It detects the subtitle track since the sub icon is not grayed out. I've toggled the icon on and off multipke times and subtitkes do not appear. Playing the same video file via USB connection produces the same result. Video and audio but no subtitles. The video is a .mkv file with embedded subtitles. This same file plays 100% correctly through my Samsung smart tv, Samsung bluray player and my WDTV live hub. It plays properly via USB and wifi from Plex media server. Only device which has a problem is my webOS 3 tv from lg. Any ideas? Thanks
