SUMMARY:

NextGen Climate is currently seeking a Data and Analytics Director to design and develop advanced data systems for strategic and targeted campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with NextGen HQ, state staff, and consultants to develop accurate tracking systems for data collection online and offline.

Serve as the national administrator of VAN, and work with state data directors to create uniform systems, establish and maintain accountability mechanisms.

Implement reports and metrics as part of a robust data culture.

Manage the training and support for HQ and in-state staff who use VAN, Catalist and other related software.

Advise internal campaigns on voter contact strategy and targeting.

Work with political staff to determine universes and metrics to educate and engage voters in targeted states and nationally.

Provide advanced data and targeting analysis for individual state plans and strategies.

Coordinate data experiments and analysis.

Work with staff to develop strategies for recruiting, re-contacting and developing supporters and activists.

Develop and conduct micro-targeting and traditional targeting for mail, phone, canvassing, online, and other specific campaign goals.

Interface professionally with other analysts in the data community to share best practices, learn about the latest technology, approaches and models.

Own relationship with VAN, Catalist and other vendors to design interface workflows and to determine what features should be used.

Other duties may be assigned. This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires at least two election cycles of advanced experience utilizing the Voter Action Network (VAN) and Catalist.

Must have advanced data extraction and manipulation skills.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skill

Knowledge of SQL and / or proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Ruby, and PHP preferred.

Ability to manage and meet deadlines on multiple projects.

Clear, concise communication style with an easy-going attitude.

Experience in producing easy-to-understand reports and ability to “tell a story” using numbers.

Must have advanced project management and data management skills.

Must be able to do advanced targeting and analysis.

Must be organized and work quickly and accurately under deadline.

Must be able to work professionally and effectively with staff at all levels of the organization as well as external contacts, constituents and vendors.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Related Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience and 5 years of data analysis and strategy experience in grassroots, organizing, legislative, electoral, or public relations campaigns is required.

Non-profit advocacy experience a plus.
