JOB SUMMARY: As Assistant Chief Immigration Judge, the incumbent serves as a principal assistant to the Chief Immigration Judge and/or Deputy Chief Immigration Judge in managing and coordinating Immigration Judge activities throughout the United States and in supervising the administrative operations of the program. As necessary, the incumbent also presides as an Immigration Judge with duties and powers somewhat similar to those of Hearing Examiners, appointed and operating under the Administrative Procedures Act, but with the additional power of entering decisions that are final unless appealed.

DOJ EOIR has posted new job openings for immigration judges on the USA Jobs Website. The announcement lists “many vacancies” in the following locations: San Francisco, CA; Santa Ana, CA; Miami, FL; Lumpkin, GA; Hyattsville, MD; and Sterling, VA. (Notably, EOIR is planning two new immigration courts in Hyattsville, MD and Sterling, VA.)
The announcement will be open from 6/28/21 to 7/12/21, and people from outside of the government are encouraged to apply.
