Yes. Connections Education is accredited by Cognia, formerly AdvancED. Cognia offers accreditation and certification, assessment, professional learning and improvement services to institutions and other education providers around the world. Many of the Connections Academy schools are also accredited by one or more of six regional accrediting organizations for higher education institutions recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the United States Department of Education.

Connections Academy provides many opportunities for students to socialize with their peers and make life-long friends. Students will participate in class discussions and group work in live virtual classes and can even join in-person field trips. Connections Academy also offers a number of extracurricular clubs where like-minded students can connect!

Because students have more flexibility with their schedules, they can also participate in more interests outside of school, such as athletics or the arts, where they can meet new people while doing what they love.

Connections Academy is tuition-free (yes, really!). Just like traditional brick-and-mortar public schools, Connections Academy receives funding directly from the state, allowing us to provide students with a high-quality learning experience at no cost to families. The only fees families are responsible for covering are school supplies, optional in-person field trips, and in some cases computers & internet.

In the fall of 2022, a diverse project team composed of principals, teachers, counselors, assistant superintendents, parents and students along with an external auditor reviewed the 2022-2023 School Selection process. This summer, the project team delivered valuable feedback and recommendations to improve the process. Here are the changes we are making to the school selection process based on those recommendations:

Enhancing the individualized review process for applicants to criteria-based schools by building upon the LeGare consent decree. For students entering 9th grade, this includes improving the impartial review process for students with an IEP, 504 plan, and English learners who apply to criteria-based high schools. The District is also creating a process for an individualized review for students with an IEP, 504 plan, and English learners who apply to criteria-based middle schools at the entry grade.

The District, in collaboration with schools, will establish a process for students who did not receive offers, but who met eligibility criteria and are waitlisted at all of the criteria-based and city-wide schools to which they applied, to receive an offer for placement at alternative criteria-based and city-wide schools where:

This summer, school leaders at criteria-based schools were provided an opportunity to collaborate with District and union leadership to determine their best-fit criteria and the process for filling vacant seats after school selection closes.

As part of the school selection process, the District prioritizes the applications of qualified applicants who live in specific zip codes that have the lowest representation of students accepting offers over the last four years, at four criteria-based schools. This year, the zip codes are:

Each of these schools has its own set of admissions criteria related to attendance, punctuality, behavior, grades, and standardized test scores. Students citywide may apply to these schools but must meet the criteria to be considered for admission.

Applicants with an ineligible status have an opportunity to appeal that decision when there is evidence of a verifiable barrier to a fully complete application and you have received an ineligible status due to a(n):

If you have documentation of one of the listed barriers to fully completing an application, please send it to appeal...@philasd.org after submitting the Google form.
Documentation must be provided within 48 hours of submission of the appeal.

Visit these schools in-person, meet the staff and learn more about the school culture. We highly recommend doing this research during the application phase rather than waiting until the final week of selection!

The 2023 K-12 Philly School Fair is an opportunity for students and families to interact with the schools and programs available in the city, ask questions, and understand application requirements and deadlines. The fair serves as a one-stop-shop for public, charter, and private high schools to display promotional materials, videos, contact information, and post school-led virtual events.

The Directory provides a complete list of high school experiences within our District and their locations. You will also find the academic, specialty, athletic, extracurricular and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs available at each high school.

The common transcript form must be used if applying to a criteria-based school and your grades and attendance are not automatically populated in the application because you were not a school district student in the 2021-2022 and/or 2022-2023 years.

No, applicants should not apply to their catchment school. If a student wishes to attend their catchment school, no action is needed through school selection. You can go directly to the school to enroll.

Our transition to the Carter School is a declaration of our position and an affirmation that we, as a school, pursue a particular set of values: compassion, humility, solidarity, a calling for social justice, and a commitment to peace.

The Immunization Manual for Schools, Preschools, and Child Care Facilities helps staff who serve on the immunization frontline at schools, preschools, and child care facilities. You'll find helpful information and resources to answer questions about immunization requirements, process Certificates of Immunization Status, and complete status reports.

According to the Washington Administrative Code WAC 246-105-030 and WAC 246-105-040 any child attending school, preschool, or child care in Washington State is required by law to be fully immunized (documentation of vaccination or proof of acquired immunity) against the following diseases at the ages and intervals in the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices immunization schedule:

Children entering school, child care, or other early learning programs are required to have certain vaccinations before they can start. These requirements are put into place to protect children, families, and communities from vaccine preventable diseases. Immunization requirements apply to all enrolled children, including those learning remotely.

The parent or guardian of a child must provide documentation of vaccination or proof of immunity to specific diseases. This requirement is based on the national Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) Immunization Schedule for school or child care registration and attendance. The specific diseases are listed in the chart below:

IVRS - Individual Vaccine Requirements Summary for Schools and Child Care: Detailed clinical guidance on immunizations required for school and child care/preschool including catch-up schedules and exceptions

Children entering child care must get the required doses listed in this chart to be in compliance with immunization requirements. School-aged children (preschool - grade 12) in before and after-school programs must meet the immunization requirements for their grade in school. The requirements follow the national Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) Immunization Schedule.
