UK woman raped on city outskirts
BY HERALD REPORTER

PANJIM, JAN 12 — With Rajasthan reeling under an alleged rape of a
foreigner and molestation of another, bringing bad name to the tourist
State, Goa too reported an incident of the same kind involving a
British woman.
On late Friday night, the 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a
wooded area, a few kilometers away from the capital city by an unknown
man, from whom the foreigner asked a lift to go to Nachinola, close to
Aldona, where she lived.
The woman was in a dilemma whether to file a complaint or not when she
came to the police station, Saturday evening. She told this reporter
she had come to attend the Idea Jalsa music concert at Kala Academy
after which the incident occurred.
The man, who the woman assumed to be in his late 20s, took her to an
unknown place from the Kala Academy, where he first allegedly raped
her and then threatened her not to report the incident.
The unwed woman from Cromford, Derbyshire, said in her complaint that
it was 10.45 pm when she sat on the bike. "I knew that the
thinly-built man was not taking me the right way; I questioned him and
he told me he had taken a short-cut route," she stated.
Describing the incident, the woman, who is in Goa since October 2007,
said the man took her to a wooded area and demanded to have sex. "I
resisted but he was too strong. He assaulted me on my head", she
narrated the horrendous experience.
The shaken-up Brit national further narrated, "After raping me the man
threatened me not to file a police complaint. I tried to soothe him
down and asked him to give me at least my shawl and shoes as I had
nothing on my body".
She said soon after her abductor dropped her on a lonely stretch in an
injured condition sometime after 1 am, to her luck two youth came
along. "After I narrated my story to them they dropped me near Rego
Hotel, from where a friend, who was contacted, came and picked me up."
PI Sudesh Naik, who has taken down the man's description, said a case
has been registered under Section 323, 376, 506 of IPC.
