Hi friends,

This is Mira Luna from Bay Area Community Exchange. BACE is a collaborative network that supports the development of alternative means of exchange in the San Francisco Bay Area. We provide research and development support, incubation of alternative exchange projects, and education to the Bay Area community about economic issues. In the "Education" section of our website, you will find one of the best introductory online libraries on community currencies. We also have a currency thinktank listserv for our area.

BACE has an open source timebank for the San Francisco Bay Area that just launched to the public last week or so. We forked off from Austin Time Exchange a while back but still work with Tom Brown who developed the software.

We are working on wide variety of projects here in the Bay Area, including myself now on a local food currency. Also eventually, a business to business mutual credit system with card probably through Sonoma Go Local and/or GETS. We also have here a money tagging project Bernal Bucks , stamp scrip paper currency for Sonoma, and Oakland municipal currency in the works.

Over the past year and a half, I have been compiling lots of info on community currencies an networking with practitioners and theoreticians from around the world. I am presenting a workshop at the US Social Forum on currencies and hosting a conference this summer in San Francisco on all forms of alternative exchange including currencies.

Thanks!
Mira Luna
p.s. could you also switch my subscription to my personal email fieldo...@yahoo.com?

What a great post-- this is why we formed the listserv!

Could you write some more about
a- your planned trip to the Detroit *ussf*2010.org
<http://www.ussf2010.org> & currency workshops there &
b- the SF summer conference on currencies (name, URL, date, place-
What's going easy with the conference; what are the challenges)?

Thanks,

Hi Jim,

Conference info not yet available. Still in works.

Here are the links to the currency workshops at the USSF. I have added some experts to my workshop (the second one) since the proposal.
http://organize.ussf2010.org/ws/timebanking-model-social-and-economic-justice-and-systems-change
http://organize.ussf2010.org/ws/reclaiming-local-economic-democracy-creating-sustainable-alternative-exchanges-through-community- http://organize.ussf2010.org/ws/community-currencies-microcredit-and-banks-banco-palmas-model (this last one depends on fundraising for Joaquim Melo, the developer of the project, which has been challenging)

Thanks!
Mira

Mira,

It was a pleasure to attend your workshop! Thanks so much for compiling all of that information, and for all your helpful advice. I'm looking forward to lots more discussion on this list, and hearing more about your food currency. Please invite anyone you can think of to join this listserv. I think at the link here: http://groups.google.com/group/naccn there is a way to request group membership, so people can join whose emails we might not know.

All of the workshops at the US Social Forum in the solidarity economy track have me convinced that these are very important projects to be expending our valuable time and effort on--this is an exciting, growing movement that has the capacity to effect really groundbreaking change! It is very inspiring see so much work focused on creating innovative solutions. Yay!
