designing the currency

we are getting ready to put out a call to artists in the community to
design our paper currency and we were wondering how you did this for
your currency. did you commission one artist? a few artists? did
you have a contest and pay the winner in US dollars? how much? did
you give them total freedom or a template to use? were you specific
about other details? if you had many artists submitting ideas, did
you choose one artist to design all the denominations? if you held a
contest, did you have the artists submit one design for each
denomination? did you have specific inspirations?

anything you would have done differently?
