Re: Fw: Re: Moving the NAA forward

Dear my people,

The continuous refusal of the board of NAA to present the account of their stewardship is a clear indication that the board has skeleton in its cupboard and in an attempt to cover-up for their mesh, Nnamani (NAA president) and his stooges in NAA have decided to be running from pillars to poles, engendering rabid divisive emotion to promote unhealthy sentiments and confusions among Nigerians. What NAA board failed to realize is that this time around, Nigerians in Edmonton are united not because of the language they speak nor because of their age group, but because of the need to restore accountability, transparency and fairness in the running of NAA affairs.

The question Nigerians ask of NAA board is; CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE US THE STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT OF OUR ASSOCIATION? Instead of answering this simple question, NAA executives (elected and/or selected) have put on the shameful defensive garment of typical corrupt public servants: avoid public debate, cause confusion, deplore divisive tactics or employ the service of "godfathers". This moronic approach being employed by Nnamani-led NAA leadership  shows that the board of NAA is suffering from toxic combo of naked treachery and pretending ignorance both in their leadership quality and their understanding of the calibre of Nigerians in NAA. Why is it so difficult for Nnamani to make available copies of NAA account statement showing total income and expenditure for members to peruse?  The answer is obvious!

We will not seat down and allow NAA (here in Canada) to be led by intellectual midgets who have elevated the quest for "dollar and cents" above their human decency, accountability and transparency. Nigerians complain about lack of decency and accountability in Nigeria government and we are resolute in our passion to change the system. The call for accountability in NAA may therefore be the first acid test of our sincere commitment to repudiating lack of accountability as one "people" united by common ideal; to build an accountable community/Nigeria. Unlike in Nigeria, Nigerians in Canada have the freedom of calling out their leaders in print media, news media, on internet and even obtain a legal injunction mandating NAA board to present detail up-to-date financial record of the association. Personally, I, Ayeni Joseph O., is taking my request for accountability in NAA to the next level by exploring the means I have highlighted above. And I call on all Nigerians in Edmonton, who believe that we cannot be doing things in the same old ways and expect different results, to join me in taking our call for accountability and transparency beyond email exchange.

Finally, to NAA board and specifically to Nnamani, I say that "it is only a fool who dances to the sound emanating from a market place, because when the market is over he will realize that the sound was not a music but distracting noise" When NAA issue becomes a legal battle, I'm sure that your advisers and even the so called "rubber stamp" past presidents will all denounce you to protect their hard earned integrity.

Thanks

Joseph O., Ayeni

Hello All,

I am disconcerted about the "Past Presidents Recommendations" letter sent to the general membership this morning.  The suggestions that I made in an e-mail to the group on Jan 4th was neither addressed in the final document nor was I given a reason for its exclusion prior to the letter being sent out.  Moreover, the tone of the final document is far removed from the initial draft that was sent to me on Jan 4th and every past President available should have reviewed the final document and signed off on it before it was sent out. For these reasons, I cannot support the resolution.

In case the Board hasn't noticed, rather than use the letter to restore credibility and project an understanding of the gravity of the situation, the letter failed to address the basic premise of the issue.  The Board cannot talk about transparency and accountability without proof.  Even if current financial documents and minutes are not available, their must be documents from 2007 - 2009 that could be made available to members before the proposed Jan 31st meeting.  I am incredibly disappointed that an effort to help resolve such an important issue has only made it worse.

From the e-mails I have been reading today, members will have a meeting this Sunday and will probably reach a consensus on the fate of the Board.  I will support whatever resolution comes out of that meeting.

Sincerely,

Dipo Omotoso

<NAA PAST PRESIDENTS' RECOMMENDATIONS.doc>

Preamble:

In accordance with and in adherence to its Constitution, the Board of the Nigeria Association of Alberta convened a general meeting of its members on December 19, 2010. The purpose of this meeting was to provide important information and to discuss and resolve other important issues and matters, in order to advance the aims and objectives of the Association. This meeting ended midwaydue to unforeseen circumstances.

After a careful review of the various issues raised at the meeting and the unfortunate incidents that followed, the Board decided to consult with the past Presidents, some of who are founding members of the Nigeria Association of Alberta. It is important to note that there are eight (8) past Presidents of the Association. All were invited to attend a CONSULTATION MEETING with the current members of the Board of Directors. The main goal of the Board in seeking this consultation meeting with these valuable members of the Association is to tap into their deep and rich wealth of knowledge and expertise and to utilize this knowledge in enhancing and advancing the overall goals and objectives of NAA without prejudice.

Present at the meeting were Mr C. Okelu, Mrs D. Onuoha, Mr M. Adeniken and Dr. Dipo Omotosho (by tele-conference). However, the following past Presidents were unable to attend: Mr. M. Laleye (outside the country), Mr. T. Duru (in Fort McMurray), Mr. I. Uzor (absent), Mr. C. Koledoye(absent).

At the consultation meeting, issues were presented to the past Presidents in attendance. Amongst these issues was the unfortunate incident which led to the procedural failure and the breakdown of decorum at the December 19, 2010 meeting.

After careful review and diligent analyses of the information asked for and provided to the pastPresidents, they made recommendations, the summary of which is as follows:

(1)
That the present Board of NAA must uncompromisingly pursue the principles, aims and objectives of the Association as written and documented in the Association’s Constitution. The basic tenet of this principle is AMITY, PEACE, FRIENDSHIP and HARMONY.

(2) We want to see a continuation of an energized NAA and urge the current leadership of theAssociation to work amicably with all Nigerians in Alberta in order to foster peace and unityamongst all NAA members.

(3) We unanimously endorse accountability, transparency and good leadership as indispensable requirements for good governance. Thuswe urge the current leadership of the NAA to stop at nothing in demonstrating these qualities.

(4) That the Board of Directors addresses the issues contained in Idowu Ohioze’s    correspondence, in their entirety.

(5)
That the Board of Directors calls a special meeting of the Association before January 31, 2011. This recommendation is necessitated by some unavoidable circumstances chief amongst which is the absence of some of the volunteers/participants at the recently concluded Nigeria @ 50/NAA @ 25 anniversaries. Some of the important data and information necessary for completing and providing a comprehensive report of this event reside with these persons.
(6)
We appeal to NAA members to see reasons why it is impossible to convene a meeting within the perceived deadline (January 9th), given the extenuating circumstances mentioned in (5) above.
(7)
We strongly urge the members of the Nigeria Association of Alberta and indeed all Nigerians to be respectful of one another, listen to each other’s points of view and toresolve any difference of opinion with calmness and maturity.

We are convinced that if members and the Board abide by the foregoing, we all would be in a better position to judge the usefulness of pursuing dissolution of the current NAA Board and at the same time foster a smooth transition to a successor Board; particularly, as the mandate of this Board terminates in April 2011.
