Fwd: Edmonton Police Intervenes

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

I just got a call (about 10:00 pm) from an Officer from the Edmonton
Police Service (EPS) and he has asked me to convey the following
information to (1) the Caretaker Committee led by  Dr Ali Ahmed Hameed
and Mr Idowu Ohioze (2) The out-going Board led by Dr Ndubuisi Nnamani
and Cajetan Ngede (2) and the entire Nigerian community in Edmonton.

1.       The EPS is committed to a mediated settlement of the ongoing
problem in the NAA and will be attending a joint meeting of all
Nigerians on March 27, 2011.

2.       The EPS has ordered and obtained a copy of the Bye Laws of
NAA as registered with the Government of Alberta in 1985 and amended
in 1986.

3.       The EPS intends to use the opportunity of the scheduled
meeting of Sunday, March 27, 2011 to conduct a peaceful mediation
process and observe the proceedings, possibly including election of
new officers.

4.       The EPS advices that all Nigerians are welcome to attend that
meeting and are assured that no one will be allowed to molest or
restrain any Nigerian from having access to the Nigeria house. Anyone
trying to cause confusion or disturb the peace will be removed.

5.       Everyone is encouraged to read the NAA Constitution as
amended in 1986 and come prepared to follow those by laws throughout
the proceedings.

6.       Everyone is advised to remain calm and stop the writing or
circulation of inflammatory email messages as these could only worsen
the tense atmosphere. The EPS regrets the recent spate of provocative
email exchanges after leaders on both sides have been cautioned to
refrain from inflammatory communications.

7.       The EPS advices that all the persons receiving letters of
expulsion from Cajetan Ngede or anyone else for that matter should
disregard such letter and come to the meeting of the 27th prepared to
exercise their rights as enshrined in the NAA Constitution as amended
in 1986.

8.       The EPS advices that you may chose to ignore any directive
from Cajetan Ngede or anyone else for that matter stipulating terms
for payment of registration/annual dues or regularization of
membership status other than either (i) what is stated in the
Constitution as amended in 1986 or (ii) in  the absence of any
constitutional restriction, what has been the NAA practice. In other
words, come prepared to regularize your membership as is
constitutionally mandated or otherwise as is customary within the
association.

9.       It is expected that on the 27th of March at about 4:00pm, a
meeting of NAA will be constituted, the Caretaker Committee and the
out-going Board will stand dissolved and an election will be conducted
by an electoral committee to be appointed and ratified on the floor of
the General Assembly, who will conduct elections, if this be the wish
of the General Assembly of the NAA there present.

That is the message.

On the basis of this, I wish to call on every one to please refrain
from any conduct or utterance that has a potential for infuriating
someone or breaching the peace in any way. Please spend your time
planning and looking for exemplary, visionary leaders that will help
unite the community and heal the deep fractures.
