Subject: Re: Cancellation of scheduled meeting !!!
Good day Mr. Okelu:ÂWithout PrejudiceÂI read your response to the call for a meeting of the NAA, in defiance of the board's unfathomable tactic not to hold a duly scheduled meeting, with a huge disappointment. Whereas, you were one of the former presidents who advised the board to, unfailingly, hold a meeting before end of January 2011, your coy email jolted me out of rythm. If insecurity is a factor, when did the City of Edmonton become Jos or Niger Delta where the police can not be trusted to secure a meeting venue? Hasn't this happened in the past, to your knowledge?ÂRecords of the NAA at my disposal indictate that you once led this association, when in its infancy, during which you complied with the constitutional and the Societies Act's requirement of the provision of annual financial reports to members of the NAA.ÂInfact, I have obtained copies of the "income statements" you filed with the Government of Alberta in compliance with the rules. I also note that this was a yearly ritual during your tenure.ÂDuring the last municipal elections, I followed your candidacy for the councillorship of ward 11 in Millwoods closely and might have voted for you if I had acquired Canadian citizenship before the elections, on the ground that I support meaningful aspirations of fellow Nigerians. I understand that was your fifth attempt at securing a seat at the City Hall. Please, pardon me if my information is incorrect.ÂDear Mr. Okelu, I have ruminated long and hard on the necessity to send you this email; and came to the conclusion that except a wandering person be shown the way, they are bound to be lost. And I mean no offence by this.ÂPermit me to digress a bit.ÂI want to believe that your years of residency in Canada have imparted a sense of how societies, communities and human affairs should general run. This, I suppose, may have influenced your decision to take a seat at the City Hall. I suppose, also, that accountability, transparency and honesty in governing the affairs of the collective would have been your watchwords were you to have been elected at the last elections.ÂAssuming the foregoing is the case, how then do you reconcile your hardline support for the present board's refusal to provide financial statements of the NAA for the past 4 years?Â
- Is it proper that once you're satisfied with the "performance" of the board, then no one else matters?
- Aren't you concerned that a group of NAAÂ members in good standing legitimately demanded accounts of the NAA and the board threw caution to the wind?
- Is there something positive about the present finances of this association that you are aware of and can share with other members which could assuage their feelings of general disregard by this board?
- Can you explain why a board that has never provided financial statements to the members be allowed to see out it tenure? Is this consistent with your plan of ensuring that Edmontonians derive the benefit of taxes paid to the City, being that City taxation was one of the electoral issues raised by you during the last elections?Â
I have posed these questions to underscore some of the values people who project objective persona to the public should uphold. They are by no means exhaustive.ÂMr. Okelu, I am happy that you have finally found your voice and written publicly to indicate where you stand in all of this.ÂAs you may already know, NAA belongs to every Nigerian in Edmonton irrespective of ethnic origin. Eugene Nnamani's leadership of the NAA isn't the first and will not be the last. Proper accounts must and will be rendered by his board by God's grace.ÂAs a fellow Nigerian, I humbly advise that you scrutinize causes you choose to fight should you still entertain the desire to represent Ward 11 in Edmonton.ÂNigeria's image need mending but not when undemocratic elements occupy public positions.ÂHave a great day.ÂSincerely,ÂIdowu OhiozeÂÂÂOn Sat, Jan 29, 2011 at 1:52 PM, <ook...@hotmail.com> wrote:
Sorry I'm not attending the meeting tomorrow because 9 of you requested and signed the bottom of this email. This email list only 30 people deep. That is not fair to the other people who are being left out of this secret meeting. The fact that only a small fraction of you, who are not on the board, are trying to dictate the conduct of the board is troubling. I'm quite sure that a meeting can't be called by in fashion. Please provide the clause in the constitution that says so. I personally would rather wait till everyone is invited and the NAA board officially sets a time. I believe if there is no attempt to hide anything, send these emails to everyone on the NAA email list. Instead of trying to overthrow this current administration, I think anyone who wants to join the board should be getting the campaign ready for election in March. I am intrigued to hear the various platforms that can help change the NAA in a positive direction.

Here, again, we are at the crossroad of deceits coming from Cajetan and Ndubuisi Nnamani. I strongly urge you to please ignore the notice of meeting cancellation sent out by Cajetan a moment ago. The meeting will hold by 4:00pm tomorrow, Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Nigerian house.
I stated recently that the current NAA leadership had resolved not to hold any meeting before leaving the office. It is now clear that claim was not an insinuation. It is high time Cajetan and Ndubuisi stopped playing and treating us as if we were imbeciles. To call for a meeting and cancel it barely 24 hours to the time is very disrespectful to all us, Nigerians, living in Edmonton. Cajetan, I hope you understand the severe implication of the reason for which you have canceled this meeting. You will have to prove it beyond all reasonable doubt at some point soon. This meeting will hold, ladies and gentlemen. And there are no safety concerns. Yes, that is true. No safety concerns because I have confidence in the security we have in the city.
On behalf of the undersigned, I encourage all people who want to move the NAA forward, and enjoy transparency in our good community to please come to the meeting tomorrow at the Nigerian house. We can no longer accept these deceits and disrespect. I beleive strongly in an African proverb which goes thus: "If a man deceives me once, shame on him. If he deceives me twice shame on me." Need I say we have been deceived more than twice already? It is time to act, and act strongly. Please come out for the NAA meeting tomorrow. It will hold according to schedule. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
Thanks and blessings to you all.

You may have had an opportunity to read through Cajetan Ngede's note to members of the NAA in which he attempted to answer the demands by members for accountability and openness.
Beside its tardiness and apparent inconsistencies, we wish you to note particularly what Mr. Ngede considers account rendering. For instance, he tabulated "approval" of expenditures for projects undertaken in the past year. In that table, you will note that approval to spend NAA's money was given before the events held.
The simple question is: when did the 2-man board retire the sum approved to be spent for those events? Shouldn't the board have reported to the NAA how the money was spent and the accrued income, if any?
Do these lot think Nigerians in Edmonton are daft?
What authority has the 2-man board to schedule annual general meeting for April when the bye laws clearly state that it must be in January of each year?
Please, troop out this coming Sunday for the annual general meeting of the NAA.
Thank you.
