Hi all,

Not specifically sailing but hoping someone on this list can point me in
the right direction.

After going out to search for Saphiras mast last weekend I was inspired
to put my dive kit back in order and start enjoying the underwater again
as well as the above water.

Looking for advice on where to have scuba tank valves installed (they
were removed for shipping) and the tanks certified in HIlo. Last time I
checked with the local shops the answer was "we don't install valves,
you should take them to Kona".

Can put the valves back on myself but don't have the torque tools to
make sure they aren't under or over tightened.

If someone on the list has the right tools (or experience) for properly
seating the main valve in the tank would be super appreciative of a
borrow or just bringing my tanks over so we could do it ourselves.

Aloha.

Erik

Hi Eric. Is it an aluminum steel tank.  I e always done my own valves, but e ne er had aluminum tanks.  There was a place In Keaau that will do hydro tests.  I’m sure that they could do it. It was a fire extinguisher place there.  I’ll see if I can look it up

If you do find the mast, how do you plan to hoist it to the surface and bring it back to shore? Wouldn't you need a crane and a large vessel for such a task?

Current thought is that it's in about 100' of water. Easy diving under recreational tables. Assuming that the mast weights around 500'lbs with its rigging attached two lines on a winch from Saphira herself or from a couple of smaller boats should be able to raise it safely after a team disconnects and floats the sails separately.

The main challenge really is only locating it's exact position.  Once that is known it's bubbles and lines.
