This is on a homebuilt telecaster with control plate from Stewmac.

I decided to install in the tone pot position because I thought it
would be easier to replace the volume pot if it went bad, besides I
don't mess with the tone pot that much when playing.

Observations: 1. The rear installation screw of the selector switch
gets in the way of plastic display ring in the volume pot install
option. It won't lay flat. 2. The plastic display ring outside
diameter is halfway over the rear install screw of the control plate
in the tone pot install option, so the install screw of the rear
control plate must be installed first before the plastic ring, washer
and nut of the n-tune pot. Here's a tip: super glue the c-washer in
place so it doesn't become misaligned during installation and pinch
the ribbon cable. Flat head screws will help.
