I want to install the N-Tune on my Strat, which already has heavily
modded electronics. Basically I've installed a push/pull pot in place
of the middle tone control, wired so that all three pickups can be on
at the same time. It also has a mid range cut set up, with a capacitor/
resistor linking the M tab of the push/pull pot to the L tab on the
volume control. Also there is a cap/resistor between the L and M tabs
of the volume control to prevent treble loss.

The third pot is the tone, which has a capacitor and a single
connection from the M tab to the M tab on the Volume pot, alongside
the hot connection to the output jack. There's also a ground of
course.

My question is, how would I wire the N-Tune as a replacement for the
tone control? I've looked at the wiring instructions for installing as
a tone pot, but need to check how to install in my set-up. Should I:

1. modify the N-Tune following the instructions for installing it as a
tone pot
2. wire the tone part of the N-Tune as my current tone pot is wired
3. connect the L tab on the volume pot to the N-Tune switch, and then
connect the switch back to the Strat's 5 way switch, ie as in the
instructions for installing it as a tone pot?

I hope that makes sense, and would be grateful for your help as I'm
really keen to install the N-Tune.

Many thanks

Our recommendation is to always follow the install instructions we post and provide.  However, it sounds like you have a very customized set-up and we would not want to ill advise you on what to do.  The first thing to look at is going to be the placement of the 9V battery.  With two push pull pots you may have to relocate the battery to the back of the instrument.  If it is possible try moving one of the springs retaining the tremolo over to make room for the battery.  If you do not have room or space for the battery the N-Tune solution will not work for you.

To wire the Tuner as a tone for you I believe is going to be a mixture of our instructions and copying your instruments current configuration.  As always we strongly recommend that you have an experienced guitar technician aid in or conduct the installation.  I hope this helps.

Thanks Sam. I assume that I could wire it as a tone control only, and
not to mute the volume if necessary? Not ideal but might work for my
set up. Grateful for advice.
Many thanks
Simon

You absolutely could do this.  Just to be clear, you can have N-Tune mute the guitar as a tone control.  I just wanted to make sure you knew that.
