Lovely friends,

Hopefully you are all well fed and rested after Thanksgiving, and wanted to share an opportunity to come dance and mingle and be part of something selfless and beautiful we have created in getting three young kids to boarding school in Uganda.

Please come out to this show, show your love and support, and enjoy Tha Dirt Feelin' and up and coming local band, a new act with Sky-I from Martinique hip/hop, reggae and dancehall and the Haitian Rocksteady and R&B from T-Rosemond.

We hope to have shirts commemorating the event, drinks and other treats for you.  Can't wait to see you all!

Here's the press release:

N Street Music will host a benefit house concert for the children of Uganda on December 8th, 2012. This musical evening will showcase local rock fusion band Tha Dirt Feelin and regional reggae backup group Ital Souls, featuring one set behind Haitian T-Rosemond and the other with Sky-I from Martinique. The proceeds will be directed towards the education of three children in Nkokonjeru, Uganda who have recently lost their parents. When a family suffers a catastrophe such as the death of a parent, the family can often not afford to keep a child in school, however education is often the key to a better life. Schooling is the single most important way a child can improve their opportunities for a successful life. A local Davis resident, Lauren Pincus, became involved with their community during her graduate research. She is spearheading fundraising efforts for these children and will continue to work with members of the community to ensure the education of these three children.

Tha Dirt Feelin is an up and coming Davis home grown band that blend rock, jazz and funk behind vocalist Marque Cass. The elements of hip-hop are clearly evident, yet the blend of classic soul and powerful rock coalesces in a most entertaining way. The positive message and upbeat sound aligns strongly with the cause they play in support of. Marque’s vocal prowess can be described easily as powerful, in as much as it is effortlessly delivered with passion. Solid lead playing over danceable grooves make them a must see at the well-produced shows N Street is becoming known for.

Ital Souls is on an upward trajectory in 2012, backing everyone from Shinehead and Rocker-T in San Francisco to T-Rosemond on Good Day Sacramento. Ital Souls has played at the San Francisco Reggae Festival and numerous Haiti Benefit shows. T-Rosemond gained local accolades for his appearances at the I-House open mics and featured performer with Ital Souls earlier this year. He grew up in Cap Haitian and began singing in the streets as he was inspired to entertain the homeless children. As the youngest entrant into Haiti’s first Digicel Rising Stars contest, analogous to US American Idol, Jolissaint won by popular vote. He is inspired and thrilled to be a part of this benefit for the children of Uganda as his desire to help struggling children is not only limited to children in Haiti. Rosemond gently wows audiences with his beautiful voice and original lyrical imagery in English and Haitian Kreyol.

Sky-I spent much of his youth in Martinique, although he was born in Sacramento and now lives in Rhonert park. He fits the mold of a classic reggae MC, but really can’t be classified as such. His hip-hop is outstanding, a unique reggae style with inflections of French, and lights up the room with soul and gospel. A deep voice in the flow of the rap, he exhibits amazing range. His involvement with Ital Souls came from a live guest appearance with the band at a Creole night in Berkeley, where he blended with T-Rosemond in the modern improvisational style of live reggae production. It was a perfect fit to take the experience of Ital Soul’s rub-a-dub, rocksteady and classic reggae into the fold of his sound, a ten foot tall giant delivering the messages of love and peace.

This musical evening has gained the support of KDRT and numerous other sponsors. The show is sponsored by KDRT. Please tune into “Lively up Yourself!” show Fridays at 1pm for updates and music from the bands. Commemorative T-shirts from Triple Crown Clothing in Oakland will be sold at the show. All money raised from door donations, refreshment sales, Ugandan art and T-shirts sales will be directed towards the school fees of these three children.
