Oggetto: Reminder: EFAy 2014 General Assembly, 13-15 February, Santiago de Compostela

Dear EFAy members,

This e-mail is a reminder of details of the 2014 EFAy General Assembly. Please keep an eye on the deadlines of the different subjects!

As you might know, the 2014 General Assembly of EFAy will be held in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 February 2014. We organize the GA once again with EFA and CMC, to discuss the important matters of the 2014 elections and the future of Europe. In this e-mail you will find practical and logistical information regarding the GA. On behalf of EFAy, I hope your party will send a delegate to participate in our GA. Please read this e-mail carefully, because it contains important information regarding the organisation.

Travel

Santiago de Compostela has an airport (airport code SCQ). The main connections to the rest of Europe are through Madrid and Barcelona, although there are a few other connections. Other possible arrival airports are A Coruña, Vigo and Porto (Portugal) airports, although these require a 1-2 hour drive or train trip to Santiago. Please be aware that our session on Thursday is our main session with full interpretation, covering Bureau/President elections and hopefully the Manifesto, and that it starts at 15:00.

Please book your travel arrangements as soon as possible to keep costs as low as possible!

Accommodation and Venues

For the General Assembly, EFAy delegates will stay in the Hostal La Salle, a youth hostel/hotel with nice rooms and a good location in the city. A night per person per night costs € 25,50. EFAy covers 3 nights for each B ureau Member and one official delegate per party. Extra delegates need to cover all nights themselves. If it is impossible to arrive in time on Thursday for the start of the GA, EFAy can cover, on a case by case basis, a fourth night.

The GA will be held in two venues. The main session on Thursday will be held in the Auditorio de Galicia, just opposite the NH Obradoiro hotel, where the Friday sessions will be held (and where EFA guests are staying). The venues are within 10-15 min. walking distance of the Hostal La Salle.

Reservations of nights for delegates will only be made for those who send in their registration forms before the deadline! Accommodation for official delegates will only be covered if the party pays membership fees one week before the General Assembly. Attached you can find the calculation of membership fees as included in the Rules of Internal Order by the General Assembly in Meran.

Attached Practical Documents

Attached you can find the GA Registration Form. Please fill this in completely, including relevant contact details! The deadline to register is Sunday 15 December 2013!

Please also find attached the standard forms to introduce Motions and Declarations. The deadline to send these in is Sunday 29 December 2013! Amendments to these can be sent in before 19 January for inclusion in the dossier.

Bureau and Presidential Elections

The term of our president Roccu Garoby has come to an end. To avoid desynchronisation of presidential and bureau member elections, the Bureau has decided to resign as well, so both the presidential and bureau member elections can be held at the same time once again. As a result, the General Assembly will elect a new Bureau and President in Santiago.

The call for candidacies for these positions is now open. To apply for any of the positions, please send in your CV, motivation letter and letter of recommendation from your party. The deadline for applications is Sunday 29 December 2013!

Manifesto

A very important document will be discussed during the 2014 GA: the EFAy Manifesto. Each of the bureau members has been assigned a certain topic for a chapter of the Manifesto to oversee. Attached you can find the first drafts of each of the six chapters. Please read all of them carefully and send in any amendments before 15 December. After receiving your amendments, the bureau members will take these into account to write a second draft before 5 January. Amendments to the second draft, and the foreword that will then be included, can be sent in until 19 January for inclusion in the dossier. Since this is the first time EFAy undertakes the writing of such a document, we urge you to actively participate in its creation. Only together can we develop a strong and representative Manifesto.

The deadline for the amendments to the first draft is Sunday 15 December 2013!

Schedule Information

Attached you will find the general scenario of the GA of the three organisations. As you can see, our main session with full interpretation will be held on the afternoon of Thursday 13 February. We have an additional morning session with partial interpretation and an optional afternoon session without interpretation on Friday 14 February. On the morning of Saturday 15 February we have a joint meeting with EFA and CMC.

The CMC is organising a fundraising dinner debate on Friday 14 February. A key speaker will be invited and there will be active discussion during the debate. If you wish to participate in this dinner debate, please indicate so in the registration form and make a prepayment of € 35 to the EFAy account with the reference “CMC Dinner”. For more information regarding this dinner debate, you can contact the CMC Coordinator Ignasi Centelles at icent...@cmc-foundation.eu.

The official dinner on Saturday 15 February is open EFAy Bureau Members and official delegates. Extra delegates will have to indicate this in the registration form and make a prepayment of € 45 to the EFAy account with the reference “EFA Dinner”.

Finally, a cultural visit is planned for Saturday afternoon to learn more about Galicia and Santiago de Compostela. The visit includes a lunch, a guided tour of the centre of Santiago de Compostela and a visit to the Museo do Pobo Galega. Anyone interested has to indicate this in the registration form and make a prepayment of € 35 to the EFAy account with the reference “Cultural Visit”.

Tombola

Based on the successes of the previous years, EFAy once again organises a Tombola during the official dinner on Saturday evening. All proceeds of the raffle will go to EFAy.

Please bring a product or item from your home region/nation to donate to the Tombola. We appreciate all your help.

If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. You will receive more detailed information regarding maps, addresses, contac t numbers, hashtags, etc. closer to the event.

With kind regards,

Olrik Bouma
